Looking for courts evening

Hi, I've been in NY for a few years now and wanted to get back into tennis.  I believe I'm around a 3.5.

I'm not familiar with courts and how they work in NY.  I've heard you need permits, don't need permits etc.  If anyone knows a good place, I am looking to hit during the evening weekdays 7pm+ if there is such a place.  I'm hoping for a free or cheap spot around Queens.  I have a car so don't mind a small amount of travel.
