Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

Description

If you are an adult interested in learning tennis, or if you want to improve your tennis by playing with others in fun, supportive group atmosphere, please consider this.

I am starting a local tennis group based on the Modern Tennis Methodology developed by Oscar Wegner. Oscar Wegner is an internationally known tennis coach who has influenced the development of tennis. I came across his methods, and they helped me understand the physics of tennis and apply them properly to my play.

Oscar Wegner loves the sport of tennis, and he wants to spread the awareness that tennis can be easy to learn and safe to play, without the obligatory development of injuries from improper movement patterns.

I am looking for people who may wish to begin to play tennis but thought it might be too complex or expensive to learn. I am also looking for players who wonder whether the techniques they are using are good for them, or whether they might want to make some changes that will help them.

Finally, I am looking for people who also want to make playing tennis a regular part of their social activity--people who just plain like tennis and are fascinated by it. I think tennis is a wonderful way to socialize and get to know people, and I envision a group of people who enjoy playing together and continue to attract new members over time. I have a web application that allows group communication about scheduling times and locations for playing at whatever courts people want to use.

If this sounds good to you, please reply to this email, and I will be happy to correspond with you and answer any questions you have. I can also tell you how to sign up for the tennis network. There won't be any formal requirements to join, but for the sake of everyone's safety, and with an eye towards the quality of everyone's group experience, I want to have a brief email conversation with everyone who wishes to join, so I can look for a good fit.

If you want to address some of these things in your initial inquiry, I would basically like to know things like: why you are interested in tennis or what you like about it, how you think playing would benefit or does benefit you, what you would like to achieve in your "tennis career," and whether you would enjoy being in a learning community where everyone wants to improve and have more fun through tennis. Or, you can just write me, and ask me questions, or we can play it by ear.

To make it easier, here are some characteristics of people whom I think would like the MTM concept. See if this describes you:

1) You are a curious person by nature, and you like to understand how things work. You have a strong sense of wonder about life.
2) You are open-minded about ideas, in that you check out new ways of doing things to see if they have merit.
3) You are a nice person and basically enjoy interacting with other people and getting to know them gradually over time.
4) Your motivation for playing tennis is to employ it as a vehicle for self-expression and for feeling a sense of accomplishment. You play tennis because it's fun.
5) You are not narrowly focused on winning and losing, and your emotional life does not center around your experiences of victory or loss in competition.
6) You enjoy the esthetics of human movement and are interested in playing tennis in a way that helps you appreciate them.
7) You think that tennis could be a way to meet interesting people, and that connecting with other people is the most important reason for doing any recreational group activity.
8) You take your commitments seriously, and you respect the time and efforts of others when you decide whether to participate or cancel for a session of play.

Thanks for your time.
