I'm looking for new shoes and a new racket but would rather seek out a specialty shop instead of relying on Big 5 :)
Suggestions?

In addition to what has already been recommended, I would add Midwest Sports and Tennis Express. Great pricing, free shipping over $75 and no tax.
I also have some demos you can try out. See you on Thursday night.
Sports Authority has a handful of inexpensive tennis shoes to choose from. When it comes to rackets, best thing to do is demo them via Tennis Warehouse. Something like $25, up to 3 rackets rental for a week, shipping included.
