I have a question involving the whole rating system. I dont have nor know my rating, but I played a 3.5 today and whipped him love and 2. now I play and I play ok but how high does the system go? cause if a 5 is really good why is there such a huge gap between the skill levels? shouldnt it go by tenths instead of half's? just wondering
3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 BUT 4.0 is a LEVEL above 3.5... a 4.0 can attack you while a 3.5 is usually just consistent. a 4.5 has very little weaknesses protected by their strengths and a 5.0 has no visible weakness and can attack you off the serve, return, groundstrokes.
Pullup the website at United States Tennis Association (www.usta.com) and look for links to leagues and ratings. They explain the NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program). And you could also Google: NTRP for an explanation. Most tennis club players are rated 3.0 through 4.5 and sectional and regional tournament players are 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 (These Ratings are very skilful and experienced players). The professional players on the big international tours are 7.0. Hope this helps. Mikee.
