Hi. I'm the Community Manager, aka The Mayor of Tennisopolis. Welcome to the site! Tell your friends about us. Use the "invite" tab at the top.
Oh, about me? I'm a website developer as well as a tennis player and huge fan of the pros. I just got moved up to a 4.5 rating - success at last!
I love to follow the pro game. I get fully obsessed during the Grand Slam events to the point where I want to lock the door and just sit around watching in my jammies.
Please invite your friends to join.
Favorite pro tennis player(s):
McEnroe, hands down. Agassi is second. Oh, you wanna know current faves? I like rooting for Murray, Azarenka, Radwanska, Coco. Other retired faves are Santoro and Spadea. Weird group I know, but hey. I love Federer and Nadal too, how can you not?
My tennis skill (please check your NTRP if you know it):
Mark, thank you for creating this wonderful site. I liked you on facebook and uploaded a few pictures. Already, I have hit with a few folks in the area and am loving it. I just started getting back into tennis after a 30 year layoff. No time like the present. Besides, so sick of running, biking...golf is too slow and boring for me, not enough exercise...tennis seems just about right for me. Besides, we have so many nice public courts in the SF Bay area. At any rate, thanks, Jeff
Thanks for the warm welcome Mark...I'm going to be visiting family in the Tampa area soon, so I've put out feelers on your site for players or drop-ins.
Congrats on the new ride! That's fantastic, good fun... Which one did you get? I have a trio of bikes, a 2004 Harley Sportster (for heavy road/canyons), a 2005 Harley Road King (for trips with my wife), and a 1975 Honda CB 750 (for zipping around town and vintage rides). My friends own a Triumph shop in Long Beach called B.A. Moto. (It's not a "gang" it's a club) Great mechanics if you ever need anything done. Keep the rubber side down, and have a great time! If you ever make it out to California, let me know. Greg
Yes Mark, I'm very much interested in seeing the Louisville Group become really vibrant with tennis activity. If that is as you've suggested I'm willing. Thks, "L"
I ride a 1988 Honda Hawk NT650 GT. This year the bike turns 25 and I'll be able to put QQ plates on it. The bike is mostly stock with performance improvements to the wheels, suspension and seat.
It's really a fun bike to ride but aside from a small tank bag there is no room to carry anything.
Which leads me to wanting to get a second bike for longer trips and space for some tennis gear.
Rain and single digit temperature right now isn't good for too many outdoor activities.
Hi Mark - actually I was riding a 2002 Triumph Daytona 955i, but had to sell it a couple of years ago. Now I'm thinking of getting another bike and leaning toward Triumph again - i loved the Daytona and am now thinking of the Speed Triple.
Not exactly, mine is grey. So you have the Hawk in addition to the Triumph? Where do you live because I think I've seen this blue Hawk parked on the street in Manhattan. Mine doesn't have a center stand.
Hi Mark!!! Newbie to Tennisopolis, but not to the game. Thanks for the suggestion to post my profile picture. I will look for a good one to use, hopefully one of me playing tennis (and hitting a winner). :-) MAJOR PRAISE for battling the spammers/scammers. I was VERY surprised to hear from the Deema Abdel scammer. The scammers must be desperate to hit Tennisopolis...lol. Like Steve Polhamus said...YOU DA MAN. I really appreciate all that you do, and I've only been a member for one week!!!
Hi Mark! Thanks for the message! Hope all is well. I was wondering though, since i'll be back down in Florida, if you have any networking opportunities that I may be able to work for a club or as a coach/instructor. I just want to dive deep into the Tennis Community and involve myself for a very…long time.
Hi Mark. Sorry for the late response. Haven't been on here in forever. I have 2 Harleys - 99 Sportser 1200, 2000 Softail Night Train, 1 Kawasaki KLR 250 and an 85 Honda XL350R.
Same here. This weather is already old. Having difficulty finding tennis partners at the non-competition level but then I must confess I haven't tried all that hard to look. I starting filtering profiles for my area and sending messages to hook up. I'd like to meet up 1-2 times and week and smack the ball around, burn some calories.
Lol...yeah, I am a big proponent of honoring past champions while cheering for the current ones. This is why I love to watch exhibition matches where the past greats play with or against the current champions. I especially liked the 2010 Hit for Haiti charity event at Indian Wells featuring Sampras/Federer vs. Agassi/Nadal. It was only a short match consisting of a single abbreviated set, but the event quickly sold out. I wished they had played best of 3 full sets, or at least 1 single full set. I think the whole match was over in 30-45 minutes. It was awesome and fun to watch, but it was way too short.
I want to make a video describing how to navigate this site. Many of my friends, who i have join get lost with everything you can do. beginners to internet , players looking to find other players News Entertainment, Free coaching and tennis advise Blogs Fan Groups help me out here. Points to get across. so that new users can see how to navigate tennisopolis
SLICE is for SUCKKers & thats a fact. if you watch the pro tour, the player who is slicing is usually in trouble.
The Video is horrible and is missing many the points. But i have already added GARY to the best of the worst lesson play list. 1 video per person is fine until my playlist takes off.
Lastly Using Slice effectively in a match varies upon the movement timing and rhythm of a match. Slice at the wrong times is a death sentence.
There is about 3 major slice shots. The use of this will be death by details if i explain how to use them. the 3 major slices are SLICE Drive, Slice finesse ( kinda like slicing short &/OR deep in the same type of swing), and Slice Drop Is slicing to prevent the ball from moving forward ( this results many times as the ball sitting up.)
Mark how about making a Home town Search. to make it easier for Tennis players to find older tennis partners from way back when....example is Home town Bronx but players moved to Ca or the state of washington and I want to connect to them and maybe get some rematches. is there a way of doing a search like so>u/p>
Uploading my profile photo is failing. I've created gifs, jpg, an png photos that are running about 50KB. No luck, I just get the message to try another photo.
I found a group near my area and have reached out to 2 of them regarding a possible meet-up.
As to meeting more people, I already have 4 people I know of whom I play tennis with or hopefully will be playing with in the near future. I do not plan on putting too much into this site yet as I am not sure if I have much of a use for it yet.
Nope, I don't think I've ever posted it on CL. Summer seems to be here but we can never be too sure. My USTA team is in first place at the moment though in our flight, so hopefully we keep it up!
Just joined new haven lawn club and will get back on the court regularly. If my knees can deal with it. Kids doing tennis camps all summer playing everyday. Hopefully getting Brian out there. Looking at racquets now.....Where are best deals????
