Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

is anyone on here part of the USTA or a USTA league?  I'm wondering if it's worth the investment.  I'm not a serious tennis player, but I enjoy the game and the workout more than competition.  I'd appreciate your thoughts.  Thanks!

Hey Katherine,

I've played on several USTA teams in a few leagues in northern VA and Montgomery County, MD.  I love playing competitive tennis, so I enjoy it.  Some teams are more hard-core than others and make every effort to take their team to districts, sectionals and/or nationals.  Some are more laid back and play mostly for fun, but with the hopes of winning matches.  I recommend joining if you like to play matches (vs. just hitting around).

Hope that helps some.

Katherine, I was in your position in wondering about USTA.  I've asked and asked everyone I know and one refrain kept coming up....ultra competitive, super serious, intense, etc.  I realized it's not for me.

Instead, I found an easy going league with like minded people in World Team Tennis.  WTT is a coed league that's great for team camaraderie.  (i'll describe more it you'd like....just send a pm)

I will say, though, the women I know swear by the USTA and they all have seemed to become close friends.  Might be worth joining just once to see if you like it.  BUT...I'll still swear by the WTT.  :)

Thanks!  I'll follow up with you.

I would say that USTA tennis is more for serious tennis players.  It used to be a option if you just didn't have anyone to play with, but now days meetups (meetup.com) are a better option for the casual player, or tennis social networks like this one.

Rick

i am not usta but if you want to play i can commute to the desired destination. I really want to be good so doing my best to find someone who can play everyday

I'd like to play at least 1ce a week but I don't think I can everyday.  I live in north Arlington.  Let me know if that's okay.

just let me know which day of the week you want to play and where i will make sure to get there

Thanks for your responses, they have been very helpful!  I haven't had much luck finding a regular partner on tennisopolis so I was wondering if the USTA teams would be the way to go and if its worth the investment.  I'm not a serious tennis player now, but I would like to play regularly so maybe I'll consider USTA in the future.

Yes, you have to join to play USTA Tournaments.
