Tennis - Buggy Whip - Advanced Jr Player - Street Tennis - Haley Street, 11 yrs old

Haley practicing her groundstrokes. Check out the "buggy whip" that she is developing. Keep in mind that she just turned 11 and has not practiced in over a week when this was shot.

Haley definitely looks like she's enjoying her game! I hope she tries some of the tips because she has potential for sure. :)

Thanks for your comment.  She definitely has a lot to work on, but I think she is very impressive considering she just turned 11 and hardly ever practices.  In her defense, for sloppy play, she was extremely tired and has not hit the "training" stage yet--this is just pure fun for her :)

Thanks again for the tips!

The key to hitting the buggy whip is remaining sideways and let the follow through spiral upwards. She does this when the ball is high and she is slightly crowded or leaning over on the run. I have a student from summer camp who hits exactly like her, forehand and backhand. Here is how I helped her.

I would like to see her shorten her forehand stroke using her elbow as a "limit". Bend the elbow high and early so the arm does not go in a single unit straight around the 7 o'clock side, avoiding the long oval swingpath. 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock is a long ways to travel!

Also, she is hunched over on the backhand. with her head over the ball. She could've fallen over at 0.39. She should have a straighter posture and be more evenly balanced over both feet.

Bring the arms more level and open the face at the windup end point, and close the face slightly going towards the ball. She is falling over because she has closed the face at the very end of the backswing and has to rush and open the face with the pendulum body shift on the front foot.
