I'm on a new Head Pro search committee and we are trying to estimate the number of hours a pro might be on the court during a week.  Combining privates, groups and clinics, how many hours do you work on average?  How many would you like to work?  What is the most you have ever done?

I understand this might range depending on the teaching professional.  I would love to get feedback on your experience and any thing you may know about other pros.

To read more about this process and contribute on my other list of questions, see this thread.

25 per week actually teaching, give or take. I would like to work more hours at one location. right now there are 3 main locations I teach out of.

The most I ever worked was 35 i think. that was alot.

If you were the Head Pro at one club, would 40 hours on court be a good thing or an unreasonable amount?

it depends how it was scheduled each day. It could be reasonable if it was all convenient at one location. I would not turn the job down :)

40 hours on court would be a dream for me.

It not only depends on your experience as a tennis professional, but also the traffic you have at your facility. If you have a balance junior and adult tennis programming, then the person as the Head Pro would have a small teaching load. Whereas if your facility has a strong, and competitive junior program, then your Head Pro might be on court more often to maintain visibility on the court.

For me I spend 25 hours/week on court for group lessons, and 5 hours/week in private lessons. Personally I like being on court than being in the office. I like to work with my junior players, and when it comes to administrative work I like to collaborate with my staff.

Hi Mark:

As a Head Pro, being on the court for more than 40 hours per week is NOT uncommon, especially when starting out in a new position.  I don't know much about your particular case scenario or what condition the club is in, membership wise, but being present during program hours is one of the major roles of a Head Pro!

Sincerely,
