Serena Williams has began training again after a difficult time on the sidelines due to a variety of injury problems, including blood clots on her lung.

Tennis betting pundits note that the American has not played competitively since winning Wimbledon last July and it is fair to say that women’s tennis hasn’t been quite the same without her.

It does appear as though she is on the comeback trail though. On her official Twitter page earlier today, Williams linked to a picture of herself by saying ‘Look who I spotted on the court. Her first day back...’

Following this, the 29-year-old’s agent Jill Smoller has said that she is ‘taking it day by day depending on how she's feeling.’

Williams has had a long time away from a court of course and will not want to rush her comeback. In an ideal world she would be back in time to defend her Wimbledon title, but those placing tennis bets note how she won’t want to go into the tournament unless she is 100% fit.

In terms of what she has been up to since cutting her foot on some glass in a restaurant following her win at SW19 last summer, Williams has had two operations on her foot as well as having an emergency operation following a pulmonary embolism.

It has without doubt been a difficult few months for her and she will just be pleased to be back on a tennis court, even if she might not be ready for a competitive return quite yet.
