I'm very nervous about the usta playoffs as tons of people will be there and I have lot of performance anxiety especially when people are watching. My team and coach expects me to do well but i realize that more pressure is put on me i tend to hyperventilate and my thinking process turns to lot of worrying.. I've tried breathing, visualizing and practice with ball machine etc...but anxiety seems to be uncontrollable... I know losing in tennis isn't end of the world but our team ended with a perfect record and seems that we are suppose to go far .. (coach even booked hotel for sectionals)... I always tell myself i don't want to play this next year because i can't handle the stress or pressure as I see the truth of my character surface and feel that i need to just play some recreational fun tennis or a local league... I see the professionals and i'm just amazed they can play at there peak when thousands are watching, money is at stake, ranking is at stake, millions watching in television etc... i guess some are wired to be pros while others are wired to be wannabes ^_+

I'm sorry man, but I LOVE playoff tennis! Why go through all the hard work of practicing and showing up on time for matches and stuff like that if you don't want to make the playoffs? I know that there is a lot of pressure as you go through the levels of USTA playoffs but if you master your anxiety and play your best you're ahead of everybody else that ponied up USTA and match fees that played in your league. Besides if you win your match you can brag about how you conquered your nerves to play well in the playoffs. So take care of your business at state and go party at Sectionals! I wish I could be at my sectionals this year but my mixed dubs teams are going nowhere.
