The Top 3 Men on the ATP Tour will be showing their stuff in Cincy on Thursday

Lots of anticipation leading into the US Open and all eyes are glued on World No.1 Novak Djokovic, the man that can do no wrong or at least can only win.  Rafael Nadal had a handful against the French qualifier but tomorrow will need more to beat a top 10 player such as Fernando Verdasco even though he has a perfect 11-0 record against him.  Novak should have an easier day as he faces a qualifier but this qualifier has been in the top ten himself so Novak better not count out Radak Stepanek…

My tennis revue for July 24th

The first week and the first tournament on the 'Road to the US OPEN' is in the books and Marty Fish not only saves two match points but takes the trophy home from Atlanta.  I hope this is more to come for Marty and since he has secured his position for the US Open he is one of the top americans this year to follow to the open and you can follow him to Los Angeles where he will be the number 1 seed this coming week at the Farmers Open.  Over in Hamburg at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament…

How Absurd is the title and title sponsor of the Hamburg Tennis tournament this week -'bet-at-home-open"

I am conflicted regarding this tournament that is being held in Hamburg this week.  Tennis betting or sports betting in general is ILLEGAL in the United States, but an ATP tournament in Germany is underwritten by an online sports betting company from Austria?  First off I do not gamble on tennis or any sport so I find it a little disturbing that we are sending such conflicting signals to our children.  Is it not true that the prize money comes from the sponsors and the sponsor is an online…

Wimbledon 2009: Doubles Finals Will be a Classic

The Bryan Brothers are the #1 team in tennis.

Nestor and Zimonjic are #2.

The Bryans regained #1 after dethroning Mr.Nestor from the #1 position.

Nestor-Zimonjic hold a 5-3 lead over the brothers in head to head match-ups.

The Bryan's and of course Nestor (with relatively new partner) are easily the most decorated and accomplished doubles pairs in mens tennis. They own all of the titles, including Olympic Gold between… Continue

Federer - Soderling 2009 French Open Finals: The Calm Before the Storm

Less than an hour to go before the French final between Robin Soderling, and Roger Federer. Both players are certainly performing their final preparations before taking the stage...Most which are mental preparations, and you have to believe that the mindsets of each warrior is slightly different.

Whether Soderling likes it or not, this is uncharted territory. Robin has gone far further than he has (boldly) ever gone before in a slam, and he's got… Continue

Soderling Triumphs, to Face Federer in French Open Big Show

Soderling has done it again.

To many, this is probably one of the most improbable runs at a Grand Slam in recent memory. While he certainly isn’t the lowest ranked player to get this far, Robin Soderling has never made it past the 3rd round of any major, ever! The guy has not even won a clay event in his life...And here in France, Soderling has not only made it to the finals, he defeated arguably the greatest clay court player of all time, in what was one of the… Continue

Federer to Play 3rd Fiddle...Maybe

Roger Federer.

The ex-King of the tennis world.

The former invincible one.

The man with shots that never existed before.

Roger Federer, (on the brink of being) the #3 player in the world.

Wow.

That just sounds wrong, doesn't it?

But here we have it...Roger doesn't make the finals this week and Andy Murray takes over the #2 spot in the ATP rankings. Andy Murray will instantly hold a better position… Continue

French Tennis Player Richard Gasquet Suspended For Cocaine Use

My perhaps "unpopular" view on the Gasquet suspension...

_____

Richard Gasquet has officially been suspended by the ITF after testing positive for Cocaine in his system.

He will miss the French Open and a hearing will take place in about 60 days to further examine the situation.

Richard tested positive back in March however, later tested negative only a few days ago (May 7th). Gasquet is of course pleading innocent here.

Is it any coincidence that I… Continue
