Customisation and Paint Jobs (join my group)

Tried the customised route and it works for me on a head LM radical and i.radical (strung weight 318g) I added an extra grip (15g) and lead top of handle (20g) and lead at 10 & 2 (10g) Total weight 363g, and 8 pts head light. These IMO are the best rackets to customise (the radicals) they are great rackets that need a bit of ooomph.

I think its interesting to customise and see how it affects your game and I have definately come out of… Continue

Dodgy knees and the hardcourt season.

Forget the grass court season August is my favourite time with Montreal, Cincinnatti and the US Open all on the hard courts, great games, great point, just great tennis.

Who are your tri-bet for the series above, who will be number 1 when the US open is done? Will Nadal be back? Will Fed slip on baby sick and sprain his wrist? Will Roddick slip off his wife and sprain his ego (for want of a better word)? Will DP smack his head on the… Continue

Fed Twins! : Myla and ... Charlene?!?

federer twins with nike booties

Well, OK - we cheated. We couldn't find a pic of both babies today, so we just photoshopped this one. How did you figure it out? We think this is Charlene Riva rather than Myla Rose. But can I just stop and say, "Charlene?!?" really?... Charlene?

Zurich - Only hours after their widely anticipated birth, the twin daughters of Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinec are already being tipped for tennis stardom, with London bookmakers Friday… Continue

Just Thinking ...

There's been a ton of tournament action going on and all of it has gotten my old mind mind churning. Here's some of what's been running through my head about this old sport of ours called tennis:

• Marat Safin actually rallied to win a match for the first time in what seems forever over in the L.A. tournament! It's so crazy to think that if he wanted to, he could easily be a top 10 player instead of retiring.

• I know he's just a kid and has plenty of years ahead of him,… Continue

Contemplating the nature of Roddick’s injury

...With the announcement that Roddick has also withdrawn from Indianapolis, I find myself contemplating the impact of his injury from a broader scope. Clearly the US would not have lost to Croatia had Roddick played Davis Cup. Clearly Dmitry Tursunov and Dudi Sela would not be the top seeds in Indianapolis had Roddick not called in sick. An injured Roddick is not good for American tennis.

That this coincides with an injured Nadal and an absent Federer places men’s tennis in a curious… Continue

What exactly is the relevance of the ESPYs?

It’s not entirely Jamie Foxx’ fault but his presence a few years ago didn’t help. It wasn’t that he serenaded Serena. It was that he didn’t seem to know how to stop serenading her. His song seemed to go on and on, and then he draped his body over hers and expressed his lust in a manner that I personally would have found disrespectful.

To be fair, it did not seem to bother Serena who laughed along gamely and spanked his butt when asked to do so. But I did note that she did not use the… Continue

Summer '09

I met a new tennis partner last weekend, one who will challenge my game at the same time keep me fine tuned. While Jason and Guy play each other in the eastern time zone, I tirelessly work to hone my skills for the eventual meeting in which I will inevitably bash both of their brains in. They have no idea what lies in store for them. As for basketball, the great foot injury of '08 is a long distant memory, but has taught many valuable lessons of humility, courage, and… Continue

Gasquet's Coke Problem Due to French Kissing!

In yet another ''only in Miami'' story, French tennis player Richard Gasquet had his two-year drug ban lifted Wednesday after only two months because an international tribunal ruled that he had inadvertently ingested cocaine while kissing a woman he didn't know at South Beach nightclub SET during the Sony Ericsson Open in late March.

Gasquet, ranked No. 23, had withdrawn from the tournament with a shoulder injury on March 28, partied at… Continue

How Exactly Did Fed Beat A-Rod AGAIN?

Even though the amazing 2009 Wimbledon final is behind us, I still find myself thinking what could've been for Roddick. He's never been this close to winning W or to beating Roger in an important match. Oh so close but this ain't horseshoes. Andy had to settle for the big dish again (second place) and it was tough to watch.

Why? Why did Andy come so close? And why did he still fall short? Will Hamilton breaks it down in the following video. Check it out. Post comments here at… Continue

'09 Wimbledon awards courtesy of cousin Avi and co

My favourite pommy movie ever is 'Snatch' and my favourite pommy invention ever is Wimbledon.

In case you're wondering - and I know I have you on the edge of your seats right now - curry after a night on the turps wins the silver with bangers and mash, english breakfast tea and Keira Knightley fighting it out for the bronze.

Why not combine the two I thought? Don't mind if I do. So, without further delay, here's some Wimbledon awards courtesy of Turkish, Mickey, cousin Avi… Continue

Fed milestones and records

With all due respect to Andy Roddick (and he's bound to get even more), all seems right in the tennis world again after Roger Federer's win on Sunday. He's back as the Wimbledon champion and back as the #1 ranked player. Other milestones or records he has broken and set so far this summer: 20th and 21st consecutive Grand Slam semifinal appearances (record), 5th and 6th consecutive Grand Slam final appearances, 20th career Grand Slam final appearance (record), 6th man to achieve the career Grand… Continue

Roddick VS. Federer 2009 final

Roddick transformed his game for the better. Played a history making match. Only lost by 2 points. He makes a joke to federer. the joke was federer "u already won three Wimbledon" or " u already won one I have none." quote not exact but close enough. winning is a test of skill & focus. Losing is a test of charater & endurance. & Great champions are masters of both. Please visit CoachV www.TennisLessonsGA.com for tennis lessons in atlanta… Continue

An Ode to Wimbledon

That was some tournament, huh? (in what can be classified as the understatement of the year!) Epic matches, history being made, amazing performances, just inspiring.

It's so inspiring, in fact, I decided to write a little poem about it that I like to call "An Ode to Wimbledon." And it goes a little something like this:

Congratulations, Roger

On making more history.

How you got that break in the end

To some, is a mystery!

But break you… Continue

Is Dinara the new Federer?

...Roger didn’t say it but his meta-point seemed to be that we have become so accustomed to his success that we dismiss anything that falls short of a win in the finals. He didn’t say it but he seemed to be implying that we his fans, are somewhat prone to either-or thinking, such that anything that is not a win in the finals is defined as a failure. He didn’t say it, because he was doing his whole classy guy act, but he seemed to be hinting that in this, we are all quite full of it. And then… Continue

Quarters?????

Im happy with my bracket selections as I have all the qrt finalists but Del Potro,

With Hewitt being the surprise and playing so well he plays Roddick next. Ive put Roddick in the semi but as with Queens this could be very close. Im still going with Rod but if Leyon gets on a role like he ha done this tournament then who knows.

Murray yesterday didnt play too well and scraped thro but he will have it easy with Ferrero. As with Queens the… Continue

The beauty conundrum

So the entire tennis world is up in arms over an allegation that the Wimbledon organizers place the pretty players on center court while the homely chicks are relegated to the courts located in the netherworld. I have honestly been shocked by the amount of press that this story has managed to attract, what with the universal fixation on the death of Michael Jackson and the astonishing number of related scandals now clogging up the news pages.

I was even more intrigued that a… Continue

How much does string really matter to you??

All of these new "big banger" strings are coming out like the new "Black Code" from technifibre, "Hurricane" Babolat, "MSV" Focus, "Zo twist tour", "Zo Rough"...etc.

What about string like "Natural Gut" though and Excel premium from babolat, wilson "hollow core", Wilson "stamina", all these multifilament strings!..

So what's better?

That extreme bite of the hurricane that sends the ball spinning off the strings or the soft touch and feel of the Natural gut that… Continue
