I mean should you volley it in to be safe or whale away? Today I am going to show you what <strong>Rafa Nadal</strong> would do and how you can use this shot in your game.</p>
<p>So choice A is to volley it with a punch. Do you think Rafa would choose choice A? Maybe sometimes but most of the time he would not. Why? Because although you may make a high percentage volleying the ball, often times you will not generate the pace necessary to dominate the point.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Choice B is to take a swinging volley. This is the one Rafa would do but he usually does it differently than maybe you are doing it right now. I see lots of people take this shot and follow through traditionally over their opposite shoulder. This can result in hitting through the ball too much without adding enough spin to bring the ball down on the other side.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The way Rafa hits with shot is to bring out his patented Nadal buggy whip forehand. He still hits through the ball enough to add plenty of power, but he pulls off the ball in time to add extra spin. This brings the ball up and down very quickly. </p>

<p>The 2014 Australian Open I believe will be really good. The sad thing though this is probably the first year where I don't believe <strong>Roger Federer</strong> even has a shot. Now that he is number 6 in the world there is just too much fire power he would have to go through. On his half of the draw he would have to go through <strong>Tsonga</strong>, <strong>Murray</strong>, and <strong>Nadal</strong> just to get to the final! Love you Roger but sorry no way that is not happening.</p>
<p>I think it will be interested to see how <strong>Murray</strong> is playing after coming off a back surgery. In my opinion he is going to have to wipe a little rust off before he starts contending for the majors again so I don't see it happening for him either.</p>
<p>Some of my dark horses are <strong>Del Potro</strong>. <strong>Thomas Berdych</strong>, and <strong>Jerzy Janowicz</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Jerzy</strong> is a big boy with a power game that has a lot of flair. For such a big guy he has the best drop shot I have ever seen so look out for him, a lot of fun to watch. The other good thing for him is he is in <strong>Ferrer</strong> half, who I believe is the most vulnerable out of the top four seeds. Also, in <strong>Ferrer</strong> quarter of the Australian Open Draw is <strong>Thomas Berdych</strong>. If you have ever watch him play you know he can beat anyone in the world and I believe he pretty much has.</p>
<p>Then you have <strong>Del Potro</strong> in <strong>Nadal's</strong> quarter. <strong>Nadal</strong> and <strong>Del Potro</strong> have had some great matches over the years. Del Potro because of his height and wing span matches up very well against Nadal. He does not mind all of Nadal's spin and when he is on he uses it against Nadal to flatten out the ball and punish Rafa. However, I still see Rafa Nadal getting to the final of this year's 2014 Australian Open.</p>
<p><strong>Djokovic</strong> is the hottest player on tour and I just don't see anyone on his side who will stop him from reaching the final. Very much like the <strong>Federer</strong> vs <strong>Nadal</strong> era the grand slams are getting pretty predictable again that the road to the title either goes through <strong>Rafa</strong> or the <strong>Djoker</strong>.</p>
<p>This one is so hard to pick! I hate to go against Rafa because he is playing so great and has defeated <strong>Novak</strong> in the last two majors the French Open and US Open. However I do believe Novak is the hottest player on tour right now and is the most hungry to hold the 2014 Australian Open Trophy. So my predication is we will have a <strong>Novak Djokovic</strong> vs <strong>Rafeal Nadal</strong> Australian Open Final and Novak will come out victorious.</p>
<p>Yes I said it Novak Djokovic wins the 2014 Australian Open Final. What do you guys think? Comment below....<iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6Z-C4tRPoQE?wmode=opaque" width="560" frameborder="0" height="315"></iframe>

<p>The backhand return can be tricky for lots of tennis players to master. Most people end up hitting off the back leg and the ball pops up. This exercise will help you develop muscle memory that will have you moving forward through the ball. Enjoy.</p>

<div>Let me tell you why I created this free webinar. First of all, many of you have been very interested in the emails we have been sending out, but are a little confused on exactly what it is I can do for you.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>This video clears that up for you and goes into great detail.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Secondly, WE ARE AT WAR WITH TECHNOLOGY AND WE ARE LOSING!!!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Face it guys, it is getting a lot harder lately to get a kid off a computer than a tennis court.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Did you know?</div>
<div> </div>
<div><ul>
<li>75.6% of the total population use the internet</li>
<li>94% of smart phone users are now on the internet</li>
<li>If Facebook were a country it would be the 3rd most populous country in the world</li>
<li>88% of Internet users browse for products and services online</li>
</ul>
<div>SO THAT IS AWESOME RIGHT? I MEAN WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY!!!</div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Unfortunately, we are so far behind the curve as an industry it is not even funny...</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At a seminar of coaches I took a poll:</div>
<div> </div>
<div><ul>
<li>Only 38% of coaches even had a website...<strong>it's 2012</strong>!!!</li>
<li>Only 13% of coaches used an online payment system...<strong>totally missing the boat</strong>!!!</li>
<li>Only 8% have a youtube account...hello have you seen what Will Hamilton has done with youtube?</li>
<li>Only 4% use email auto-responders..<strong>.this is how you build relationships on auto-pilot and make money in your sleep</strong></li>
</ul>
<div><strong>I made this webinar for you to get in the game before it is too late. Do you think technology is a FADE?</strong></div>
</div>
<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div><a href="http://freewebinar.greedytennis.com/">http://freewebinar.greedytennis.com/</a></div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>If you know how to play the game you have the opportunity to be more successful at being a tennis coach then you ever have been. And the opportunities are limitless.</strong></div>
<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div><strong>Set aside 25 minutes with no distractions and watch this video </strong><a href="http://freewebinar.greedytennis.com/">http://freewebinar.greedytennis.com/</a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>You will not be sorry,</div>

<div> </div>
<div>For example, one of my big goals for next year is to speak at USPTA conventions to get the Crunch Time Coaching message out there to the coaches. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I started reaches out to USPTA divisions in Sept. This proved to be a wise strategy...<strong>I have 10 speaking engagements set up all over the country for 2013.</strong></div>
<div> </div>
<div>What do you think would have happened if I would have waited to January of 2013 to start reaching out? I already know the answer. SORRY WE ALREADY HAVE OUR SPEAKERS TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>If you have goals to get online for 2013 now is the time!!! In fact, wait too much longer and it will almost be too late to put an effective game plan for 2013.</div>

<p>What you want to do is be much more subtle with the amount of cut you put on the ball. I compare it to putting just a dash of salt in your soup. If you just add a dash or a hint of cut to your slice you will end up with a shot that more resembles what the pros like Roger Federer hit. A shot that has some drive to it and skids and stays low when it hits the other side of the court. Make sure to watch the whole video so you can see exactly what I am talking about and please be sure to let me know if this video helped!!!</p>US Wins Davis Cup Match...Do You Care?tag:tennisopolis.com,2012-02-13:1869403:BlogPost:8523882012-02-13T13:30:00.000ZPeter Freemanhttp://tennisopolis.com/profile/PeterFreeman

<p>Watching the Davis Cup this weekend was fun and it was great to see the US beat Switzerland. John Isner had the biggest win of his career and beat the legendary Roger Federer 4-6, 6-3, 7-6,6-2.</p>
<p>Marty Fish came up big coming back from being down 2 sets to 1 against Stanislas Wawrinka winning 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 9-7. This no doubt will help Fish get back his confidence for the 2012 season after a very disappointing Australian Open.</p>
<p>Ryan Harrison had his Davis Cup debut and beat Michael Lammer 7-6, 7-6 to make Davis Cup captain Jim Courior proud and hopeful for the future of American tennis.</p>
<p>All these results are great news for American tennis and a big win for our Davis Cup team. However, who really cares? My friend who happens to be a Federer fan said to me the Davis Cup is not important anymore and just like an exhibition.</p>
<p>When I thought about it, I had to admit he kind of had a point. I mean unless the Davis Cup is on television right in front of you, is it an event you look forward to. When players lose matches in the Davis Cup is it a big deal? If I am being honest I don't look forward to the Davis Cup like I look forward to the Grand Slams. I already cannot wait for the French and that is months away!!!</p>
<p>The players are already talking about the Olympics coming up this summer at Wimbledon and so am I. So the question is what can be done about the Davis Cup to make it more relevant as a major event. Should it be played every couple years and run like a tournament to get it done all at once? Should the Olympics just take the place of Davis Cup now that all the top pros seem to want to play it? Or is the Davis Cup just fine the way it is? <p>I felt having Lendl in Andy's corner was a big help and has pushed Andy's game to another level. It is a real shame he could not pull out the win. This is a match where you hate to see someone lose.</p>
<p>What can you say about Novak Djokovic. He has gone from being a choker to MR Clutch!!! He now loves these moments and somehow knows he is coming out on top no matter what.</p>
<p>Here is the question of the day. Can Novak come back and play Rafa Nadal at 100 percent. I believe his game is now better and more complete than Rafa, but he will need to be 100 percent ready physically and mentally to deal with the Spanish Bull. Can he do it or did today's match take it's toll? <p>Another classic match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. If you are a Roger fan though it is the same old story close but no cigar. The two are so evenly matched and it really produces high drama scintillating tennis.</p>
<p>This match again had everything!!! Amazing points, huge momentum swings, and fireworks...literally(it was Australia Day and the match was stopped for 15 minutes). If you are a Rafael Nadal fan you must love all these matches because they truly are breathtaking to watch.</p>
<p>I however am a Roger fan so it is a little heartbreaking to watch. To see him try so hard, play so well and still fall short is hard. As I was watching the match it becomes more and more apparent why he can't beat Rafa. The talent is there, the hunger is there, but the pressure is too much!!!</p>
<p>He knows he has to play aggressive to win and when Roger watches Rafa run down great shot after great shot it becomes disheartening to him. He is so good at controlling his emotions but you can still see the look of overwhelm on his face. Roger simply has to do too many complicated shots to win a point and when the pressure builds he goes for too much at the wrong times.</p>
<p>Rafa on the other hand has the luxury of playing high percentage heavy topspin pounding tennis. Now while this looks incredible exhausting there is not as much pressure to produce greatness and genius every point. Rafa produces his greatness by reacting to what Federer has thrown at him, but he does not constantly have to be thinking,"ok whats the next amazing shot I have to try to win this point". The way Roger has to win points is not only physically exhausting but mental as well. That is the big difference in my opinion.</p>
<p>Let me know if you agree and if you disagree, why do you think Roger can't beat this guy? Comment below the video of highlights...<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Brkzs5siDO0?wmode=opaque" frameborder="0"></iframe>

<p>It was vintage Federer as he destroys Del Potro 6-4,6-3, 6-2. Wow is all I can say. This is Federer's ninth straight Semi-Final appearance at the Aussie Open. The longer he plays the more he racks up sick records. If you are counting at home he has 16 majors, 31 straight Quarterfinal or better appearances in majors, and 7 year end championships which is of course another record. <strong>Can you think of anyone in the history of sport who has a more impressive resume than Federer? If so comment below and let me know who...</strong><iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PijAVJ5j-8s?wmode=opaque" frameborder="0"></iframe>

<p>Nadal had a tough match but still came out on Top against Berdych 6-7,7-6,6-4,6-3. This of course sets out our Classic Nadal vs Federer match up. <strong>Who do you think will win? I am going with Federer because I think his serve is on fire and his backhand is ready to stand up to the pressure.</strong></p>

<p>Here is a great shot by David Nalbandian at 7-7 in the fifth, but Big John had the last laugh again with a 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8 win. Are you kidding me? He loves these long matches. He looks like he can barely walk by the end and looking at his body you would figure long matches would not be a good thing for him, but that serve is the X factor that helps get him through.</p>
<p>So here is the question…Now that he has made it through in this epic 5 setter can he come back and compete in the next match or will he be too tired to be competitive in his next round? He plays Feliciano Lopez. Can John win or is he toast comment below…</p>

<p>I’m watching the end of the year 2011 Barclays ATP Finals and I am totally confused. Roger Federer looks like he is 25 and in his prime. Rafa looks tired and burned out but he always does at the end of the year. The Djoker gets beaten by Ferrer and Tipsarevic and admits he has nothing left. Murray plays great in Asia but pulls out with injury…</p>
<p>Everything seems so up in the air and I love it!!! The ATP Tour is so interesting and I think for the first time in years I have no idea where the tour is headed. When Djokovic won the US Open I was sure he was going to be the new king for years to come. When he is on his game he just seems to move better, hit harder, and be more consistent then the other top dogs. However, these last two months have been bad for the Djoker. He has been injured, burned out, and beaten badly. This is not good and could be bad for him in 2012.</p>
<p>Rafael Nadal would have had another brilliant year in 2011 if it was not for Novak. For the first time in his career he was out matched mentally and physically. His confidence appears to be shattered despite his valiant attempts to stay positive. What is even more troubling is other players outside the top 4 are getting bold and using his high bouncing ball against him. If more of the field continues to figure out how to use his spin against him he is in huge trouble. I don’t know if he has another gear to turn to or can add too much more to his game.</p>
<p>Roger Federer what can I say? You are the man and in my opinion the greatest ever. He continues to play solid tennis and is always in the mix. He looks the freshest and the sharpest at the end of the year. He loves the indoor season and his game is as sharp as ever. The only question is does this mean anything? If he continues to play this way it could mean he could retain his number 1 ranking in 2012. I can’t believe I am saying this but Nadal and Novak better have a refreshing off season if they want to keep up with Roger in 2012.</p>
<p>Andy Murray looked great on the tour in Asia but finishes the year with an injury. We know he has the game to win in 2012 but can he have the mental break through he needs to win? Until he wins one, I am not a believer he is a serious contender to the thrown.</p>
<p>What do you think? Muse back….</p>
