Singles Play

Singles Play Here are some tips that will help you improve your singles game. Before I get into some strokes and strategies that will help, I can’t emphasize enough how much your fitness will play a part in determining winning and losing a match. There are exercises and work out routines that will improve strength […]

The Forehand

The Forehand When attempting the forehand stroke consider racquet preparation first. As soon as your opponent has struck the ball, you should begin to move the racquet back. This allows for a smooth stroke with lots of time. If the racquet is not back early the stroke is hurried and leaves many more chances for […]

Volley vs. Passing Shot

Volley vs. Passing Shot It is commonly said in tennis that a player’s first volley is only as good as he or she’s first serve or approach shot. If you are a serve and volley player in singles you need to develop a good and consistent first serve. While power on the serve is great, […]

Six Tips To Better Tennis

Six Tips To Tennis Improvement. 1-If you are beginning to take up the sport and are taking lessons try to put in as much practice in between lessons as possible. The optimum number of hours is five, but we are all busy and that may not be possible, but if you want to save money […]

Use Your Senses

Use Your Senses Playing better tennis depends an awful lot upon using our physical senses. As you know our five senses consist of smell, taste, sight, hearing and touch; use of our natural gifts will lead to improved play. You can eliminate the first two of the above smell and taste. The only way they […]

Tennis Parents Beware

Tennis-Parents BewareWhen I was teaching in a club atmosphere I controlled the development of my students on a weekly basis, now teaching at a resort I don’t have that luxury, but the weather is great. Tennis-Outside the Box

If you are a fellow USPTA member, you already know this, but if you are an instructor, a parent keeping an eye on your child’s improvement or a player with a consistent stroke problem, it may be time to think outside the box. Tennis can be enjoyed being played in different ways, there is more than one way to correctly play tennis. Here are two examples of what I mean; the first is a tactical issue and the second mechanical. When I was in New England I taught a junior player Brian from the time…See More

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

This article will not be too wordy but will have a lot of pictures.

When discussing the proper way to hit strokes many things are covered, however not too often where the correct alignment of the butt of the racquet should be. In many cases if the butt is correct the rest may follow suit. So, let’s begin with the backside- the butt.
