nice comments, gents.   Actually I am in Castro Valley, and having a heck of a time changing my profile to reflect that.  The ball fell into a spot that gets regular watering in the backyard.

It looks more like you are in Seattle than San Ramon.  I didn't realize it was wet enough there to grow a science experiment on a tennis ball.
