golf handicap. Most recreational players are from the 2.5 to 4.5
range.

Use the information below to "self-rate" your game, and then
play some people at that level and adjust as necessary.

VERIFICATION LEVEL CHARACTERISTICS
(information from USTA)

1.0 This player is just starting to
play tennis.

1.5 This player has limited experience
and is still working primarily on getting the ball into play.

2.0 This player needs on-court
experience. This player has obvious stroke weaknesses but is
familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play.

2.5 This player is learning to judge
where the ball is going although court coverage is weak. This
player can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of
the same ability.

3.0 This player is fairly consistent
when hitting medium paced shots, but is not comfortable with all
strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control,
depth, or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up,
one-back.

3.5 This player has achieved improved
stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots,
bur still lacks depth and variety. This player exhibits more
aggressive net play, has improved court coverage, and is developing
teamwork in doubles.

4.0 This player has dependable strokes,
including directional control and depth on both forehand and
backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs,
overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. This
player occasionally forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost
due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.

4.5 This player has begun to master the
use of power and spins and is beginning to handle pace, has sound
footwork, can control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary game
plan according to opponents. This player can hit first serves with
power and accuracy and place the second serve. This player tends to
over hit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in
doubles.

5.0 This player has good shot
anticipation and frequently has an outstanding shot or attribute
around which a game may be structured. This player can regularly
hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away
volleys, can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys,
over-head smashes, and has good depth and spin on most second
serves.

5.5 This player has developed power
and/or consistency as a major weapon. This player can vary
strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hits
dependable shots in a stress situation.

6.0 These players will generally not
need NTRP ratings. Rankings or past rankings will speak for
themselves. The 6.0 player typically has had intensive training for
national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels
and has obtained a sectional and/or national ranking. The 6.5
player has a reasonable chance of succeeding at the 7.0 level and
has extensive satellite tournament experience. The 7.0 is a world
class player who is committed to tournament competition on the
international level and whose major source of income is tournament
prize winnings.
Tennis Trip Giveaway, Hyatt Regency Scottsdaletag:tennisopolis.com,2009-12-14:1869403:Page:3765102009-12-14T23:48:07.907ZMark / The Mayorhttp://tennisopolis.com/profile/archibot

It's fine to mention, link to, or discuss most other web sites,
including your own, that may be of interest to our members, as long
as the web sites you refer to are consistent with our
guidelines. Members may not promote a website that we feel is
in direct competition with Tennisopolis. A great place to start is
by building your online profile. Whether you’re a casual player,
avid tennis fanatic or a business owner, announce to the world what
you stand for and what you offer.

Spamming and Self-promotion. We understand the desire for
members to use Tennisopolis as a way to promote themselves and
their businesses. We want to encourage and foster this, but there
are acceptable and unacceptable ways to do it. You may not directly
advertise or promote yourself en masse to the membership via
messaging. (This includes dropping promo text on an unreasonable
amount of members pages willy-nilly.)

The most effective and most appropriate way to attract
attention is to be a periodic contributor of valued content to the
site. Brief plugs at the end of contributed content is
generally acceptable. However, plugs at the end of a welcome
message to new members that is obviously self-promoting is
unacceptable.

We also offer direct advertising of your company's products or
services to the membership at large, please see <a href=
Basically you don't want to post email addresses on any public
website including this one. Same thing with phone numbers. The best
way to communicate with other members here is to leave a note on
their page, or add them as a friend. (They will get an email
notification when you do this.) Once someone has added you as a
friend, you two can private message all day long.

Of course, you may exchange your contact information in private
messages if you wish. That is your perogative, however we strongly
recommended using the communication tools in Tennisopolis and
keeping your phone numbers and email addresses private.

Like any public website, we get our fair share of spammers and
email / phone number harvesters. To protect our membership, you may

Challenge Ladders are a fun way to encourage tennis play in your group. Here are some sample rules that you can modify for your group.

-----

Friendship Ladder Rules

Our Tennis Ladder is designed to create good competition, and a high level of fun, while increasing our member’s skills and allowing them to meet other members.

Each challenge period will be given an odd or even designation, with the first being even, the next odd, and so forth (odd or even will be designated at the top of the ladder on the group page.)

During each challenge period, the players on the designated rungs will be allowed to challenge the person in the rung above them. If the challenger wins, then the people will switch places (i.e. if you are on an “even” rung, and you challenge and “odd” rung and win, then you move up. The next week you will be able to challenge again since you are now an “odd” rung. If you lose, the positions stay the same and you wait to be challenged next week.)

The ladder will begin __________ and end ________.

(optional End Of Ladder Tournament)
The tournament is January 24 & 25.

Please remember that signing up for the ladder is a responsibility, and in order to make the ladder effective, players must be willing to make those obligations.

Ladder Rules
1. You may only challenge the person directly above you, except during the 3-up challenge weeks (see rule 17)
2. Either as a challenger or challenged, you should play one match a week.
3. The challenge will be one (1) week long (Monday through Sunday). Exception: Dec. 22 – Jan. 4 is treated as one week.
4. The challenger arranges the match, and must give the challenged a minimum of two (2) alternative times; one (1) of these must be on the weekend; the other on a weekday. Please be cooperative when arranging matches.
5. If the challenged is unable to play the match, a default should be recorded, and the positions exchanged. Default should not be considered a four-letter word. In order for the ladder to be effective and fair, players need to take the legitimate defaults and keep moving.
6. Both the challenger and the challenged bring a new can of balls to the match. You play with one can, the winner takes the unopened can and the looser takes the can used in the match.
7. Each match will be best 2 of 3 sets with regular scoring, and a twelve (12) point tie breaker at six (6) all in any set. If a 3rd set is required it will be played as a KOMAN ten point tiebreaker.
8. If the challenger wins, positions are exchanged, if not, positions remain the same.
9. The winner is responsible for recording the outcome of the match in the designated discussion forum in our group page.
10. All challengers must contact their opponent by Wednesday of the challenge week. Challenged must have a minimum of two (2) days advance notice to schedule the match. If challenged after Wednesday, the challenged is under no obligation to play the match, but is encouraged to do so.
11. The ladder will be changed by Noon Monday of the next week, according to the challenge record book. If it is not in the challenge record book, your match will not be recorded. Defaults are important in facilitating movement in the ladder.
12. Once on a division, you must remain there until you can challenge onto the bottom of the higher division, or be dropped to the top of the lower division.
13. Should a ladder position be vacated, a person on the waiting list, or a bye, will be added to the vacated slot.
14. If either player fails to arrive within fifteen (15) minutes of the scheduled start time, the challenge is either dropped or defaulted, depending on which player is late. If a match is defaulted, it should be recorded as such.
15. If you join late, you can join at the bottom of division three (3), or go on a waiting list for the first open slot on division one or two.
16. There will be no “no default weeks” (i.e. Thanksgiving week will be treated as any other week). Instead the two (2) weeks of December 22 – 28 and December 29 – January 4 will be treated as one (1) week.
17. 3-up challenge. In order to mix up the ladder (a little more movement) we will have 4 x “3-up” challenges as follows:
Week 2: 3-up Odd
Week 5: 3-up Even
Week 8: 3-up Odd

The 3-up Weeks: The first 3-up challenge will be the week of _____________: (i.e. if that week is an odd challenge week, for instance, the #13 will challenge #10, #11 will challenge #8, #9 will challenge #6, etc). Due to the nature of the 3-up challenge two (2) to three (3) (depending on odd/even week) at the top or bottom of the ladder may be without a challenge.

Thanks and have fun. If you have any questions please post them in our discussion forum on our group page

(INSERT YOUR OWN DATES)
Week 1: Oct 27 – Nov 2 = EVEN
Week 2: Nov 3 – Nov 9 = ODD 3-UP
Week 3: Nov 10 – Nov 16 = EVEN
Week 4: Nov 17 – Nov 23 = ODD
Week 5: Nov 24 – Nov 30 = EVEN 3-UP
Week 6: Dec 1 – Dec 7 = ODD
Week 7: Dec 8 – Dec 14 = EVEN Week 8: Dec 15 – Dec 21 = ODD 3-UP
Week 9: Dec 22 – Jan 4 = EVEN
Week 10: Jan 5 – Jan 11 = ODD
Week 11: Jan 12 – Jan 18 = EVEN 3-UP

(OPTIONAL) The Tournament Weekend will be _____________. Seeds will be set by the ladder results.
Our Tennisopolis-Sponsored Protag:tennisopolis.com,2008-08-16:1869403:Page:1628922008-08-16T21:34:16.135ZMark / The Mayorhttp://tennisopolis.com/profile/archibot

insiders together to connect, learn, explore business
opportunities and related topics. Feel free to share,
support, coach, even gossip with other members in any of our

If you're new to our community, please read these guidelines and
tips for getting started and how to benefit from participating.
A great place to start is building
your online profile. Whether you’re a casual player, avid
tennis fanatic or a business owner, announce to the world what you
stand for and what you offer.

We want our community to be comfortable, thought provoking,
helpful, safe, and easy to use. Tennisopolis is deeply committed to
including a wide range of views in our forums, groups and blog
postings. Our community policies are guided by the belief that free
expression and open communication will help players, students,
teachers, directors, vendors, and fans connect, find friendship,
support, feedback, learning, and experience diverse opinions. In
doing so, it is our hope that we can all become better people and
better professionals.

We respect individual differences in philosophies, beliefs,
opinions, and work styles, and expect our community members to do
the same. Please note that users who violate these guidelines may
be sent a warning and, if necessary, be banned from the
network.

Your Rights and
Responsibilities

Please bear in mind that all of the material you read in our
community areas comes from other members. Because our community is
very large, Tennisopolis doesn't monitor or verify all the
information posted by our members. The comments, opinions, and
statements posted on our bulletin boards, forums, groups and chats
don't necessarily reflect the views of Tennisopolis. The
information posted on our boards and blog postings, including
advice and opinions, is the responsibility of those members who
create the posts.

Please consult your business advisors or other qualified
professionals before relying on information you find in the
community areas. Tennisopolis is not responsible for the accuracy
of posts and is not liable for any damage or loss that may result
from your reliance on what other members have said.

All Tennisopolis communications, including blogs, group discussion
and forum posts, are public and not private communications.
Tennisopolis has the right to modify and publish (both on our site
and in other media) any information you post in our community
areas. Please note that the material you post may be indexed by
search engines such as Yahoo and Google.

Community staff and volunteer hosts may use your membership e-mail
to contact you regarding your messages in our community. You're
responsible for keeping your e-mail address active and updated.
Failure to keep your e-mail address updated may result in your
being banned until we can confirm that you have a valid e-mail
address associated with your Tennisopolis membership.

Keep your login information, including your password, private.
Sharing of memberships or screen names is not allowed and may
result in your being banned. Tennisopolis accepts no responsibility
for use of your membership or computer by third parties, with or
without your permission.

Post honestly and in good faith, with the intention to support,
share, and inform. We don't welcome people who disrupt our
community and create additional work for our hosts or staff. If we
believe that you're posting with the intent to cause disruption or
harm to your fellow members' community experience or enjoyment,
specific content may be deleted and you may be banned.

Tennisopolis has the right to delete any post and ban any user,
with or without notice, at any time and for any reason, including,
without limitation, our judgment that the user has violated these
community guidelines. Tennisopolis has no obligation to delete
content that you find personally objectionable or offensive. By
using the community areas you are agreeing to abide by our
guidelines and to submit to their interpretation and enforcement by
our staff.

We reserve the right to modify or change these guidelines without
notice.

Privacy Guidelines

Never provide your password, telephone numbers, or home address to
anyone online. Be very careful about responding to solicitations
for interviews or research. Note, however, that Tennisopolis
editors might invite you to respond to such solicitations from time
to time.

Never divulge any private or personal information about another
person online. That includes the person's real name or address,
e-mail address, and any other personal information that the person
has not asked you to make public. Don't forward or post private
messages that someone has sent to you unless you have his or her
permission. Only send e-mail to another Tennisopolis member if he
or she has given you expressed permission. Please don't solicit
other members' personal information.

The e-mail address you provide is for our use only, unless you
provide it to other members. By accepting friendships on
Tennisopolis, you take full responsibility for any e-mail you
receive. Tennisopolis does not monitor such communications and will
not intervene between members who use this function. The only way
to keep from receiving undesirable e-mail is to remove the
offending member from your friends list and not share your e-mail
address.

Members of the Tennisopolis community sometimes organize matches,
meet-ups, rallies, donations, gift exchanges, reunions, and other
offline activities. Such arrangements are private and are not
sponsored, vetted, or hosted by Tennisopolis. You participate at
your own risk.

If you're looking for subjects to interview or participants for a
study, please contact the Community Manager to ask for permission
before querying the Tennisopolis community.

Profile Names

We are building a community for personal and business interaction,
so we encourage you to use your real name (or business' name.)
Adding a last name is up to you. If you choose to be anonymous,
please choose a screen name that's in good taste. If you select one
that we deem to be vulgar, obscene or that misrepresents you to
others, we'll ask you to change your name. If you do not change
your name within 3 calendar days we may ban you.

Anyone who tries to impersonate a Tennisopolis staff member,
writer, expert, host, or other user — or who creates a screen name
in order to hide his or her identity while violating our guidelines
— will be banned immediately, permanently and without notice.

Profiles

Nothing contained in a member's profile may violate Tennisopolis'
community guidelines in any way. Examples of violations include,
but are not limited to links to inappropriate material, competitive
advertising and foul language.

Insults, Libel and
Threats

Insulting another community member is never acceptable, even in the
liveliest of debates. Please note that in a debate, you can state
that another member's point of view is wrong, misguided, or
uninformed and still be within the guidelines. We take attacks and
insults on debate threads very seriously. We reserve the right to
end or delete any discussion if, in our sole judgment, it has
wandered from being a healthy discussion into an exchange of
attacks and insults.

Please note that we do not allow
religious debates on Tennisopolis.

External Web Sites

It's fine to mention, link to, or discuss most other web sites,
including your own, that may be of interest to our members, as long
as the web sites you refer to are consistent with our guidelines.
You may not promote a website that we feel is in direct competition
with Tennisopolis. We do not allow linking to pornographic sites or
gambling sites directly or indirectly.

Community Areas

To participate in our community areas (forums, groups, etc.) you
agree to the following:

Do use community areas to comment, share ideas, buy goods and
services, and seek capital.

Don't post any advertising, promotional materials, referrals,
junk mail, spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or any other form
of solicitation.

Don't post anything obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit,
illegal, harmful, insulting, threatening, abusive, harassing,
humiliating, embarrassing, defamatory, libelous, untrue, invasive
of someone else's privacy, or objectionable (in our sole
discretion).

Don't post with the intent to disrupt or disturb the community
or to interfere with other members' use and enjoyment of our
community.

Don't attack character or damage the reputation of other
members, name-call, insult, ridicule, harass, mock, or otherwise
verbally assault other members of this community.

Don't post anything hateful — including targeting race, class,
gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, weight,
or disability.

Don't create a screen name to hide your identity while you are
violating our guidelines.

Don't post or link to inappropriate content. Inappropriate
content is anything Tennisopolis deems obscene or vulgar, including
graphic images or stories.

Don't post anything you don't have the right to publish or
violate any copyright or other proprietary rights in your posts.
That includes excerpting published articles without the author or
owner's permission.

Don't transfer issues or posts from one forum, blog, or group
to another with the intention of drawing negative attention to the
issue.

Don't use all capital letters in your chat or bulletin board
postings unless you REALLY MEAN TO YELL!

Don't post a message in more than one location.

Don't flood. This includes repeatedly "bumping" a thread,
disrupting an online chat event by entering the same phrase over
and over again, or otherwise using up bandwidth for no reason.

Don't "friend spam". This means that members are not allowed to
randomly send friend requests to unreasonably large amounts of
members that they have not met organically on the site. You may
have as many friends as like, but do not "friend spam".

Don't post on behalf of banned members. If you do this, you may
be banned without notice or warning.

Spamming and
Self-promotion

We understand the desire for members to use Tennisopolis as a way
to promote themselves and their businesses. We want to encourage
and foster this, but there are acceptable and unacceptable ways to
do it. You may not directly advertise or promote yourself en masse
to the membership via messaging (unless they are a friend or in a
group and only if it's relevant to the group discussion), in any
comment, in any blog or forum discussion, or any media.

Any advertising or mention of tennis sites offering similar
features to Tennisopolis are not allowed. For example, it would be
completely inappropriate to walk into a tennis club and hand out
fliers to players about your club across the street.

The appropriate way to attract attention is to be a periodic
contributor of valued content to the site. Brief plugs at the
end of contributed content is generally acceptable. However, brief
plugs at the end of a welcome message for a new member that is
obviously self promoting is unacceptable. If you would like to
advertise your company, products or services to the membership at
large, please contact us about advertising on Tennisopolis.

A serious violation of the Tennisopolis community is poaching or
directly soliciting Tennisopolis members using our internal
messaging technology for competitive purposes. We are not against
competitors or competition, present and future. However, using the
Tennisopolis internal email messaging or platform to post a self
promoting blog, discussion, or comment on any profile wall with the
intent to advertise a competitive web site is in violation of our
community guidelines and subject to immediate ban, and probable
legal prosecution.

Copyright Violations

Please do not upload any copyrighted works including, but not
limited to, photos, videos and text. We've noticed a large amount
of very professional looking photos of pros lately. Please take
these down if you did not take the photo or have specific
permission to use the photo.

Violations of Community
Guidelines

If you violate the Tennisopolis community guidelines, you may be
contacted individually by community staff. Your actions may result
in a warning, a suspension, or permanent banning from participation
in our community. If you poach and solicit Tennisopolis members
using our messaging, you will be prosecuted. We do not publicly
discuss or announce warnings, suspensions or bannings.

Banning is done at the community staff's discretion and is the
result of our sole determination of a member's demonstrated
inability or disinclination to follow our guidelines. We reserve
the right to ban any member at any time for any reason, with or
without warning.

If a thread that contains a violation of these guidelines has
information that's useful to the original poster or other members
of the site, it may be edited or locked. However, if in our sole
judgment a thread was created for the purpose of violating the
guidelines, violates enough guidelines to be irredeemable, or
contains no otherwise useful information, it may be removed.

Because of the size of our community, we can't monitor all posts on
the site. If you see a message you believe violates our guidelines,
please contact us.
Your community manager is <a href=
NTRP VERIFICATION LEVEL CHARACTERISTICS

(information from USTA) Use the information below to
"self-rate" your game, and then play some people at that level and
adjust as necessary.

1.0 This player is just starting to play tennis.

1.5 This player has limited experience and is still
working primarily on getting the ball into play.

2.0 This player needs on-court experience. This player
has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions
for singles and doubles play.

2.5 This player is learning to judge where the ball is
going although court coverage is weak. This player can sustain a
short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability

3.0 This player is fairly consistent when hitting medium
paced shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks
execution when trying for directional control, depth, or power.
Most common doubles formation is one-up, one-back.

3.5 This player has achieved improved stroke
dependability with directional control on moderate shots, bur still
lacks depth and variety. This player exhibits more aggressive net
play, has improved court coverage, and is developing teamwork in
doubles.

4.0 This player has dependable strokes, including
directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides
on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads,
approach shots and volleys with some success. This player
occasionally forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to
impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.

4.5 This player has begun to master the use of power and
spins and is beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can
control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary game plan
according to opponents. This player can hit first serves with power
and accuracy and place the second serve. This player tends to over
hit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in
doubles.

5.0 This player has good shot anticipation and frequently
has an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be
structured. This player can regularly hit winners or force errors
off of short balls and can put away volleys, can successfully
execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, over-head smashes, and has
good depth and spin on most second serves.

5.5 This player has developed power and/or consistency as
a major weapon. This player can vary strategies and styles of play
in a competitive situation and hits dependable shots in a stress
situation.

6.0 These players will generally not need NTRP ratings.
Rankings or past rankings will speak for themselves. The 6.0 player
typically has had intensive training for national tournament
competition at the junior and collegiate levels and has obtained a
sectional and/or national ranking. The 6.5 player has a reasonable
chance of succeeding at the 7.0 level and has extensive satellite
tournament experience. The 7.0 is a world class player who is
committed to tournament competition on the international level and
whose major source of income is tournament prize winnings.
Match Chattertag:tennisopolis.com,2008-05-13:1869403:Page:887912008-05-13T03:29:13.348ZMark / The Mayorhttp://tennisopolis.com/profile/archibot

Chat Embedding

Chat supports several content types that can be embedded in the
chat. Examples are below.

Images on a Web Site:
Enter full image URL such as
'http://www.mydomain.com/imagepath.jpg' (no other trailing
information after the .jpg). JPG, PNG and GIF formats are
acceptable. Images uploaded on Tennisopolis: Right click on an
image to get the URL. In IE, right click the photo and then click
'Properties' and cut-and-paste the image address (URL). In Firefox,
right click and then 'Copy Image Location'. For example, you should
see something like
'http://api.ning.com/files/MoLl4ovNMeEpxx*m4vKbgJlGWhPZrBU5bLheeA-i7rQ_/young.jpg?width=280&height=209'
as the image URL. Paste EVERYTHING into the chat window EXCEPT
anything including and after the question mark. So the image URL
you paste into chat would be just
'http://api.ning.com/files/MoLl4ovNMeEpxx*m4vKbgJlGWhPZrBU5bLheeA-i7rQ_/young.jpg'

.

YouTube Video:
Paste the URL (NOT the Embed Code) of a YouTube video

Music:
Type the full URL of an MP3 file such as
'http://www.mydomain.com/file.mp3' (no other trailing information
after the .mp3 -- this is Beta).

Please Note:: Any inappropriate, explicit, sexual or other
questionable content/chat may result in your ENTIRE Tennisopolis
account being terminated. So post with care!
Advertise on Tennisopolistag:tennisopolis.com,2008-03-14:1869403:Page:534292008-03-14T04:21:17.698ZMark / The Mayorhttp://tennisopolis.com/profile/archibot

Tennisopolis is a huge site, and we know that it can be tough to figure it all out right away.

Many people come here for different reasons; some love the pro game and want to talk tennis, others are in the tennis industry and want to network, and still others are here to set up a rally or a match.

To find players in your area:

Our first suggestion is to search through the Groups to see if one has formed in your neck of the woods. The Groups are sub-categories within the website. Some Groups actually meet on regularly scheduled days and some groups are casual and are just there to find people in your town. If you find a Group in your area, join it. Then introduce yourself with the "start new discussion" link. You can also send a message to the entire group, each member will get the note in their email.

If there is no Group in your area, we suggest that you start one. With the super fast growth Tennisopolis is experiencing, your town's page will fill up very fast. Then go to the Main Page or the Members Page and use the search function to find members in your city or the nearby suburbs, etc. Once you find them, invite them into the new Group from your group's main page.
