I played tennis all through highschool but I havent played for about 3 years so I am pretty rusty. I live in SE but i have a car and dont have a problem driving to a different part of town. I havent played at all over the winter months :/

I used to play at alder creek middle school sometimes... i actually just graduated from the University of Oregon and just moved back to clackamas. haha, i haven't played that much lately and i'm really not that good of a player... my serve kinda sucks, but i can definitely get a good rally going for a while! thursday sounds good!(if its not raining), just let me know when and where!

It's tough to say when a good time to play would be, because an hour ago downtown it was windy and raining, and now here by Lake Oswego, it's a very pretty sunny day! But if we can find a time when the courts are dry, I'd love to play.

i work mon-fri and schools mon-tues for me at ccc night classes. other than that i'm open. CCC courts arent that bad and i've got a couple in clackamas that is a great place to play in

Hi Renae,

I just joined the group, but been in Portland since 2006.
Like you, I had played in High School (and a little in college for credit), but haven't played much since and getting back into it. So just looking to hit around and make some new tennis friends, looking to improve and play a bit more as the season warms up. Also rusty, and breaking in some new rackets. I'm about 3.5-4.0 and need to work on consistency, not very competitive now but would like to get game up to 4.5 level or so. Anyhow, I'll be introducing myself to a few folks, I'll be looking to play local (walk or biking distance), but can drive also... I'm close-in SE, about 2 miles east of downtown. Let me know if you may want to hit some balls if we get some pockets of good weather in coming weeks...

Nah, actually let me rephrase - I'm "normally" a 3.5-4.0 and may get up past that, but for now pretty rusty - some strokes OK and some need some help, but my serve is good for some reason after all this time. Anyhow, i'm just gonna feel it out and play it by ear - but not looking to start playing guys better than me yet, I want to start with females hitting with a little less pace on the ball. I played with a 52 y.o. guy in Lake O, he was in good shape but more of a racquetball guy, so i beat him 6-4, 6-2 despite being super rusty, but shanked my share of forehands and still have BOTH a 2-hand and a 1-hand backhand, tryin to use the 1 hand more on the lower groundstrokes, but use the 2 hand on higher and closer balls. Anyhow, don't get the impression i'm competitive, just looking to get back into it. Rekindled a slight hoops injury snowboarding at Hood last week. OK, but not doing sprints anytime soon... anyhow let me know, i play any level as long as you can get ball back over the net for the most part - like i said, i'm not into playing guys that are really good, yet - but hope to later as i improve. thx, gabe

Exactly, that's what's cool about this site is there are a ton of people, and if it doesn't work out no harm and no hard feelings. Just mainly going out to get some air, hit some balls, make some friends - not stressing about errors vs. winners and so forth right now. I'm totally flexible now (pending weather), as I'm unfortunately not working at the moment.

Just wanted to follow up... looks like despite some rain next few days, Tues-Fri supposed to be really nice this coming week. It's supposed to get close to 60 degrees by the later part of the week! So that's a welcome addition... Anyhow, let me know if you'd like to go hit some balls one of these days, I believe you said you had a couple days off during the week? Hi Renae, just checking back - despite correspondence I still haven't hit with someone from tennisopolis yet... Wouldn't mind meeting up this week if weather gets better again and you free up (I believe you said Wed and Thurs are free?). I think those two days may be clear this week, Thursday for sure. Thanks for the reply. I play the tournaments just for fun. It's just another way to find people who play tennis for me. I'm an ok player, really just play to get in shape.

The tournaments correspond with the major tennis tournaments, there is one March 5th, that's really too soon probably registration ends tomorrow.

re: "i am pretty rusty": it will not matter because I only began to play tennis last May (2011) and now regulars and pros of meetup.com/tennisportland tell me I am close to 3.0 level. Also, I never played indoors. From what I heard, people play doubles indoors - that way the admission fee is low (about $8 to $10 per person). So, we need two more people. You are girl and it is easy for you to gather people - guys just want to play with girls in hope for "more than tennis". So, if you get two more people - we can book the indoor court

I just discovered that our University provides free indoor courts for us (students, staff, professors, etc). So, I will be playing there.

Well, my previous comment was based on thinking only about myself. Then I thought what if you want to play and there is no match? Say, players are 4.0 or higher and they get bored very quickly with beginners like you and I. So, if you really want to play, there are indoor tennis courts, like this Portland Tennis Center portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=52167 It has to be reserved in advance, and fees are 1¼ hours (1 hr 15 min); $14/person for singles and $8/person for doubles (Portland resident fees). It looks like we are same level players. So, if you really want to play, let's reserve the court.

It looks like it is $10.00 fee guest pass, per visit. But I never played there yet. I will tell you more after my first day there, on Friday. (From May until December we played outdoors. I love outdoor tennis.) So, I will tell you in a few days about tennis at Portland State University.
