Random things about me (hobbies, occupation, tennis history, favorite band, etc.):
I am a 25 year old female. I enjoy staying active and I am usually up for about anything. I played tennis all through highschool but I havent played for about 3 years so I am pretty rusty. I live in SE but i have a car and dont have a problem driving to a different part of town. I havent played at all over the winter months :/
My tennis skill (please check your NTRP if you know it):
I would definitely be up for playing sometime! you live in milwaukie? I used to play at alder creek middle school sometimes... i actually just graduated from the University of Oregon and just moved back to clackamas. So right now i'm looking for a job and my days are pretty open! soo just let me know when you might wanna play and we'll get together!
haha, i haven't played that much lately and i'm really not that good of a player... my serve kinda sucks, but i can definitely get a good rally going for a while! thursday sounds good!(if its not raining), just let me know when and where!
It's tough to say when a good time to play would be, because an hour ago downtown it was windy and raining, and now here by Lake Oswego, it's a very pretty sunny day! But if we can find a time when the courts are dry, I'd love to play.
I know lots of spots here in SW - do you know many in SE? Feel free to give me a call at (503) 803-2240 and we can work something out!
i work mon-fri and schools mon-tues for me at ccc night classes. other than that i'm open. CCC courts arent that bad and i've got a couple in clackamas that is a great place to play in
nah! I wouldn't call you a flake. People have to do things that they have to do. It's what makes the world go round. I do have a membership at the tualatin club. You know I wouldn't mind if u text me or call. Better than waiting fir a reply here. If u still can't find my number, 503-807-0349
I am out in SE. Played casually all my life off and on. Looking to play more and maybe get semi-serious about it. I just found out my rating, it's just shy of 3.0. It's pretty well laid out here http://www.usta.com/?sc_itemid={A9EAE203-D273-4CB1-9038-5A293C5ED642}
If your at a similar skill level and want to play, hit me up. 702-303-2003
Thanks,
Josh
I just joined the group, but been in Portland since 2006.
Like you, I had played in High School (and a little in college for credit), but haven't played much since and getting back into it. So just looking to hit around and make some new tennis friends, looking to improve and play a bit more as the season warms up. Also rusty, and breaking in some new rackets. I'm about 3.5-4.0 and need to work on consistency, not very competitive now but would like to get game up to 4.5 level or so. Anyhow, I'll be introducing myself to a few folks, I'll be looking to play local (walk or biking distance), but can drive also... I'm close-in SE, about 2 miles east of downtown. Let me know if you may want to hit some balls if we get some pockets of good weather in coming weeks...
Thanks, Gabe
Nah, actually let me rephrase - I'm "normally" a 3.5-4.0 and may get up past that, but for now pretty rusty - some strokes OK and some need some help, but my serve is good for some reason after all this time. Anyhow, i'm just gonna feel it out and play it by ear - but not looking to start playing guys better than me yet, I want to start with females hitting with a little less pace on the ball. I played with a 52 y.o. guy in Lake O, he was in good shape but more of a racquetball guy, so i beat him 6-4, 6-2 despite being super rusty, but shanked my share of forehands and still have BOTH a 2-hand and a 1-hand backhand, tryin to use the 1 hand more on the lower groundstrokes, but use the 2 hand on higher and closer balls. Anyhow, don't get the impression i'm competitive, just looking to get back into it. Rekindled a slight hoops injury snowboarding at Hood last week. OK, but not doing sprints anytime soon... anyhow let me know, i play any level as long as you can get ball back over the net for the most part - like i said, i'm not into playing guys that are really good, yet - but hope to later as i improve. thx, gabe
Exactly, that's what's cool about this site is there are a ton of people, and if it doesn't work out no harm and no hard feelings. Just mainly going out to get some air, hit some balls, make some friends - not stressing about errors vs. winners and so forth right now. Hey, listen here's my #: 503-891-9175, call me sometime as i hate having to log in everytime to check a comment. I'm totally flexible now (pending weather), as I'm unfortunately not working at the moment.
Just wanted to follow up... looks like despite some rain next few days, Tues-Fri supposed to be really nice this coming week. It's supposed to get close to 60 degrees by the later part of the week! So that's a welcome addition... Anyhow, let me know if you'd like to go hit some balls one of these days, I believe you said you had a couple days off during the week? Where do you usually play and do you have a car? (I can drive too). Let me know what may work for you... Best, Gabe
Just wanted to check back with you, weather looks to be awesome today, 70 degrees actually! Wanted to go hit some balls, another guy had to back out b/c something with his wife came up... Let me know, I'm pretty flexible today. Not sure when checking email again so call me if you'd like to play - 503-891-9175. Thx, Gabe
Hey Renae, looks like Wed and Thurs work best on the 10 day forecast (Tues is rainy)... Wed is supposed to be partly cloudy and 61, Thurs mostly cloudy and 67. (but some sun both days). Take your pick, both work for me. Hey can you email me at gabelempert@gmail.com? Easier than logging in to this site just to see a quick message. Thx, Gabe
Hey... I think we talked a long time ago on here about playing sometime but never got around to it...? anyway, i'm in clackamas and looking for someone to play with this weekend if you're interested! text me if you'd like to, 503-757-2192 or email me at amundsonj1@gmail.com... i check it all the time!
Hi Renae, just checking back - despite correspondence I still haven't hit with someone from tennisopolis yet... Wouldn't mind meeting up this week if weather gets better again and you free up (I believe you said Wed and Thurs are free?). I think those two days may be clear this week, Thursday for sure. Also - I saw your post when replying to Jun, I'm actually developing a curriculum/program and will be doing affordable lessons in close-in Portland. If interested we can discuss if and when we go hit sometime... let me know and have a great week Renae!
Hey I live on 170 and Halsey. I have not played since I left FL back in August or so.. I really need to get hitting again.. do you know where there are some courts around here?? Thanks, let me know if you have time to hit some time.
Hey, I definitely still wanna hit! Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually good for me too. Do you wanna hit this Wednesday? I can hit before 12 or after 6. ( I have to work in between.) Let me know, thanks! 503 422 7322
I play tournaments at the Vancouver Tennis Center and I'm looking for a mixed doubles partner. I'm a 3.0 player also. I'm 6'3" tall so I'm good at serve and volley. Interested?
Thanks for the reply. I play the tournaments just for fun. It's just another way to find people who play tennis for me. I'm an ok player, really just play to get in shape.
The tournaments correspond with the major tennis tournaments, there is one March 5th, that's really too soon probably registration ends tomorrow.
here's the schedule of tournaments that VTC has:
Grand Slam #1: The Australian Open
January 22-24: Singles (register online)
March 5-7: Doubles (register online)
Grand Slam #2: The French Open
April 30 - May 2: Singles (register online)
June 4-6: Doubles (register online)
Grand Slam #3: Wimbledon
July 16-18: Singles (register online)
July 30 - Aug 1: Doubles (register online)
Grand Slam #4: The US Open
Sept 17-19: Singles (register online)
Oct 8-10: Doubles (register online)
Hi Renae, are you still looking for people to hit with? I'm in SW and can play usually during weekdays and sometimes in the evening or weekends with a few days notice. I'm around a 3.0-3.5 and am looking for someone else to play with for fun and exercise. Hit me up if you are still looking!
Renae - definitely available mornings/early afternoons- I'm my own boss so I can go play tennis whenever I want (ie when it's sunny and someone else wants to play!) let me know when you want to meet up!
I would like to know if you would like to play sometime. I live close to Alder creek MS. My job is over at 4pm M-F. I am also a 2.5 to 3.0 player. Love the game. However I am twice your age. Yikes!!
We have been playing at meetup.com/tennisportland at Westview HS, all year long, but rains started. I am at your skill level, live in SE. Indoors tennis?
re: "i am pretty rusty": it will not matter because I only began to play tennis last May (2011) and now regulars and pros of meetup.com/tennisportland tell me I am close to 3.0 level. Also, I never played indoors. From what I heard, people play doubles indoors - that way the admission fee is low (about $8 to $10 per person). So, we need two more people. You are girl and it is easy for you to gather people - guys just want to play with girls in hope for "more than tennis". So, if you get two more people - we can book the indoor court
Well, my previous comment was based on thinking only about myself. Then I thought what if you want to play and there is no match? Say, players are 4.0 or higher and they get bored very quickly with beginners like you and I. So, if you really want to play, there are indoor tennis courts, like this Portland Tennis Center portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=52167 It has to be reserved in advance, and fees are 1¼ hours (1 hr 15 min); $14/person for singles and $8/person for doubles (Portland resident fees). It looks like we are same level players. So, if you really want to play, let's reserve the court.
It looks like it is $10.00 fee guest pass, per visit. But I never played there yet. I will tell you more after my first day there, on Friday. (From May until December we played outdoors. I love outdoor tennis.) So, I will tell you in a few days about tennis at Portland State University.
