Hey Tim, how do you convince people to take tennis lessons in a nice way? I am in a tennis club in chicago (meetup.com) and most of the players need some SERIOUS help, dude. I like the people but I get frustrated hitting with them and they arent improving one bit.. I'm at least a 4.5 (in my day, we didnt have such ratings) and there are only a handful of strong players.. Any suggestions? It just gets hard to get out of bed knowing I wont have a good time.... Ivan Jr. (Mark)
I have 13 new gtx's and 2 that I use on a regular basis (gtx pro and gtx pro t). When I started playing in the early 1980's , I started with a Prince Classic, then a Prince Pro. My private coach suggested the wilson Ultra II standard and then the Lendl racquet... Its the only thing I like to hit with. Very unbalanced with all the weight in the handle but you get great head speed. The people who say its a "club" are pretty much morons.. Lendl was #1 in the world for 270 weeks during the 1980's-90's. so its an excellent racquet. I string mine with gut on the mains and prince lightning at 60lbs.
Lendl strung his at 70 lbs. Yes, the kneissl white star lendl is the exact racquet.. Kneissl sold the mold to Adidas and they started producing them in the kneissl factory in Austria with the adidas paint job. Then adidas then opened a factory in france where most of them were made. My early lendl racquets I picked up in the states. Holabird sports was one of the only stores that advertised in tennis magazine to sell the Lendl racquet. Then, I picked up the rest in europe, mostly Italy and of course adidas is VERY popular in Germany.
Back to the Kneissl racquet, Lendl used it for a short time as a junior player and won the Wimbledon Junior title and french open junior title...Thats when adidas snatched him up. Kevin Curren , who played Boris Becker in the 1985 Wimbledon Final, used the White Star Lendl Racquet. (Ive got a video highlite of that match on my page)
Wow, Head Radical Tour? Isnt that what Agassi used? Ive heard about his book but he must have been high when he wrote it.. I got DVDs of him in matches and he looked like he was having a blast....Yeah, i miss all the racquets of the 80's. Wilson Sting, Pro Kennex racquets (golden ace), Dunlop Max 200 g (damn I could never hit with that one), Prince Graphite. They were definately much better made. The paint on the racquets of today seems to chip off or rub off, kind of cheap. I bought my nephew a babolat Nadal Jr. to get him started and I bought a blx federer racquet as well for when he gets older.
What do you think about the babolat racquets? i hit with one and the head was like a hoola hoop and the ball sailed on me! If I werent playing with the Lendl stuff, my next choice would be a prince graphite midsize. I have a brand new 6.0 Wilson Pro Staff (85 sq. In) from 1995 in mint condition but I'm not a Wilson guy and I wouldnt mind getting rid of it. Do you know anyone who might be interested in it? It has never been hit with but it was strung originally by Holabird sports and a few years later, I took the strings off of it. It has the fairway grip....
Hi. You don't know me, but I was wondering if it would be ok for me to observe a match or two of yours (I'm a total beginner so I'm not looking to play with anyone who actually got a ranking). I just need to see how the right techniques are executed and it looked like you were in my area.
I like to play sets too... This is bad timing for the next two weeks. I am off to Hong Kong til the 4th. If you are interested in hitting when I get back, YOU'RE ON!!!!! I like to play in the days when its hot but if you are as good as you state, it won't matter....Have you played with any of the other members? You are lucky too...being able to play 5 times a week.
