Random things about me (hobbies, occupation, tennis history, favorite band, etc.):
I've been away from playing competitive tennis for many many years. I was rated for Open division but given a 5.5+ for league play. I was a USTA volunteer, part of the Tennis for Public Schools Program for Oakland and SF. Most recently, I have been giving private coaching and instruction to juniors and adults in the Tri-Valley area. I have also coached East Bay USTA Ladies 3.0 to 4.0 teams and local high schools, both girls and boys. My first season the team and I had a 10-0 record at Cal. I was a long time member of the USTA and USRSA. Was also a certified racquet stringer.
In 2002 I had hand surgery for a metacarpal boss. Over some years before with the ailment and months of rehab, I fell out of touch with my many tennis contacts, business and social. I had to stop all tennis activity and never quite got back to the sport although I have become a pretty good guitar player.
As of 8/09, I started a new leaf. Tennis has been a huge part of my life I've always enjoyed competitive or social. I want to get back to the sport and give back to the community. I just joined Tennisopolis and also started a new tennis group called: Tri-Valley Tennis Assn. 2010, Currently Director/coach for Youth Tennis League in San Ramon, at Dougherty High. Also helped the Clubsport 7.0 Mix Combo, for 2011. If you live in the area, I welcome you to join TVTA.
Favorite pro tennis player(s):
I don't follow professional tennis much since the likes of Rafter, Sampras and Agassi left the game. I do remember the old pros, Laver, Rosewall and watching TV matches of Nastase, Newcombe, Lendl, McEnroe, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, and Connors. Those were the days of exciting tennis. If I had to pick a current pro, I'd have to say Federer and Sharapova but I don't follow them. I have more fun with real people and friends like you.
My tennis skill (please check your NTRP if you know it):
Hey Dudley,
I thoroghly enjoyed you tuteledge today, I'm very pleased to have met you. Thanks for taking the time to provide me with pointers and tips. I'm looking forward to learning more from you and eventually being able to provide you with a bit of friendly competition in the future.
Thanks again for your instruction.
Hey Dudley, I dont actually belong to the ClubSports, but I go there to play as a guest often, and play there for other teams in USTA Leagues. I play primarily doubles, mostly mixed, so if we could get something going around the Tri-Valley that would be great.
Welcome to the "community-based" tennis social network which connects tennis players, fans, coaches, and you. We created this place in December and it has been a wild ride ever since - we've gone viral and now we're "almost famous".
To get started, pleaseupload a photo or avatar for yourself (if you haven’t already.) Whether it's of you, your dog, or your racquet it doesn't matter, but it helps people remember you. You can also personalize Your Page with pictures, links, RSS feeds, colors and more here.
Thanks to everyone inviting their friends, we now have over 12,700 members and we're growing by 90 new members a day. Invite yours too!
Hi Dudley
What's your intent with your newly created group? I currently join the mid-peninsula group every Saturday for a hit around, since there's not a regular one in the East Bay. It's a long drive, but it's keeping me in the game and enjoy playing with the nice people I've met. It would be great if there's a regular meet up in the East Bay. If you're looking for players to hit with, let me know.
Hello dudleyk, just joined the group and very exited. I just moved in town from chicago 4 months ago and looking for an outlet to be able to play again. looking forward to meet this group!
Fred
Hi Dudley! I agree with Joe. I didn't see your message on weekday meetups either. I don't think your messages are posting correctly. You may want to send a group message as well as adding a comment on the TVA main page. None of your meet up attempts has posted on the comment section. There's also an option for you to create a meet up section that will allow players to rsvp whether they will attend, not attend or might attend. In addition, to get everyone's schedule in sync, you may want to give at least a week's notice. Thanks for your effort.
Hey Dudley, Some of us are meeting for doubles Tuesday nite, and we are looking for a 4th. Would you care to join us?
Fred (773) 259 7354
(How about we play at 7:00pm at Emerald Park in Dublin. Exit off Santa Rita turn left (north). Drive about 1.5 miles. Park is on the left after the nice apartments)
Dudley, so far we have you, myself, erik, kisseng, and bill mason for tonight. some of us will be there by 630p. if you have anyone else, please do let them know. see you tonight.
Dudley,
I joined your group so I should receive your next group message.
I suggest you create a Court Time event for your meetup and resend the group message pointing them to the event page.
Let me know when you send the message.
Thanks,
Mark
Hey Dudley, some time ago you told me if I ever needed help with my game to just ask you. Well, the more I play doubles, the more weaknesses I find in my game. I find I really suck at putting volleys away at the net. I inevitably hit the ball right back to my opponent at the net, failing to angle it or put it at their feet. If we could ever find the time to work on this, I would appreciate your help. I'm a 3.5 NTRP. Thanks
Do you remember me? Went on Craig's List and found your website. You put a lot of work into it and did a great job. As you can see, I did not rate myself. My goal is to have fun, but I would like to get up to- 2.5 or 3, with practice and/or lessons. if you give lessons, I might be interested. Lots of changes since a year ago, see profile.
hey dudley, fred here. sorry for not getting back to you sooner. i have been flying a lot for work for the past 2 months and wilol be gone for the next 2 weeks. looking forward to be back in march and maybe we could set up a game or two with the group. i'll drop you a note once i get back. ciao for now. fred
All that late tennis keep you up at night?
It was nice to meet you all. Mixed doubles is different than the ladies doubles I usually play. It's fun to play different types of tennis and you learn from everyone. I'll see if I can get any other gals to come out with us next time.
Hi Dudley...do you have time for singles in late afternoon Thursday before all the doubles folks show up? Let me know thanks

Hi Dudley.
I played alot of tennis in jr high and the first three years of high school. Then I quit for about 20 years. Started again a year ago. I like singles because its been hard to get 3 other guys about the same skill level together. I teach my children tennis and hit with my wife also. This is good but no competition. I have a friend I play with weekly most weeks who is about a 4.0. He is like the energizer bunny (a triathlete) but cannot beat me. We play 3 sets at a time for about 3 hours or more midday. I want to find someone who can consistently beat me so I can get better and for variety. I am having to look for younger and younger competition but this is not really the best or my goal since I am in my mid 40's but still very quick footed. I need someone to pressure my game so I will be forced to improve two things, my second service and service return (under pressure) from a good server. I am open to developing a doubles game but haven't really found much fun in doubles because its alot of standing around. I like to run alot. Hope we can play soon. My oldest child is 12. He is getting better and should be able to beat me by 18 or 19 if his current progress continues (not likely).
Pulled a calf muscle during a match this week. It's already better, but I'm going to give it another few days to make sure. I'll come out again on a Thursday night when I know I can play on it.
Thanks. The only USTA teams I play with are at Club Sport San Ramon, and I guess the pro there is the coach, although there isn't much coaching going on. I will let you know if I hear about any other teams looking for a coach.
I don't think Hal actually 'coaches', he just does clinics. Like I said, we are pretty much on our own. I'll ask around and see if anyone wants to do a clinic. This is women's doubles mostly, what kind of clinics do you teach?
Thanks for the add. I will try to make it. I don't think I will be able to play a match...won't be able to run too much since I broke my leg (tibia/fibia) about 5 months ago. I'd be interested in hitting with someone.
Hi. I would like to stop by tomorrow for the first time, if that's okay. I'm a 2.5 player. I am looking to meet new people to play tennis. I like to play both doubles and singles, but for now I'd prefer doubles.
Hi Dudley. It was fun. Thanks for welcoming us. Also, someone from the group left their racket last night. I think it's a wilson from what I saw at first glance. My husband has it in his bag. So if you can ask the guys who is missing a racket that'd be great. Thanks.
Joseph
