HOW & WHERE Do I Find where TENNIS SOCIALS are held in Northern Virginia ?

A group called The Tennis Group might work for you. See link below:

Most of the players are 3.0 - 3.5. I know that is a little better than you, but the men in the group would.t mind having a new pretty player in the group. The age range is 40 - 65.

You need a member to recommend you. If you are willing to come to Bethesda MD,

I will do that for you if you meet my standards. My main standard is that you body looks as good as your face. Did I mention that I was single and I will have judge if your kissing meets the groups standards. You must know love means nothing in tennis. Just kidding of course.except for the fact I am really single.

No, all I will be checking is that most of the time you don't double fault, get most service returns back, and know the basic positions and strategy. Did I mention I was also a tennis instructor. So maybe you teach me something in return. Maybe a kissing lesson if I think you have talent. Just kidding again. Some people call me a kidder. Other people call me good, bad, and ugly names.

Well...for the ones in my area...you can check out the website http://www.tennisladder.com. However, that only covers the Colesville, MD side (ie Wheaton, Silver Spring, Glenmont, some parts of Rockville.)

To tell you the truth, this is how I've usually checked around -

Go to a search website and try looking for players from as many "tennis clubs fairfax" groups as possible.
Use Craigslist - their VA sports posts are usually looking for players.
Ask around the social boards like us (Tennisopolis.com as an example) for information.

Once you've found a group that you like, get their number and start pestering people:) Someone will usually answer back.

FYI - My area has a major social tennis event gathering coming up at the Greencastle Public Parks on April 11 (a Saturday). The information is in the tennisladder.com website, if you need the address for it I can get it out if you are interested. The social tennis gathering consists of players who are 2.0 - 4.0, your kind of group,

Thank you very much. I didn't think it would be so difficult. I guess I had hoped there would be a Tennissocial.com or something......

Well, Tennisopolis.com is definitely considered one of the more better social websites...it's just you have to put in a lot to get results...but nowadays, what social website dosen't? Also, Tennis social websites sometimes do have "deceptive" names...which dosen't look like they are social sites, but in reality they are. So it's nice to read the fine print within the site just in case.

As of so far, I think I have been on this website since November 2008, so, been on here for about 4 months. In that time, I've met about 10 players or so. About 3 of em I play with regularly. From those 10, I actually got to know another 2-3 players (ie their friends, teammates, etc). So I'd say this website does work out well for now.

Looking for people isn't really that difficult...but there are a few things to keep in mind - (From my observation)

Some people may already comfortable with their own groups and don't want to expand their comfort zone.
Some people are "specialists" in tennis...ie Some people only want to play singles/doubles only. So they ignore everyone else.
Some people are intimidated by a person's higher NTRP Rating.

DO NOT get discouraged!

The majority of people you will meet in any tennis social website, face to face or online are usually nice people. But after all, we are still people, with our jobs, other social events, etc. But I guess we're all here to get better, meet new friends, and to enjoy the game of tennis. If you can find em, people can definitely make your tennis experience a lot more enjoyable.

P.S. - The other poster, Thomas Meyer - is a really good tennis player. I had the honor of playing with him last week in a doubles game. He is very consistant, very patient, and very observant. If you need any tips on how to play, I understand he teaches a tennis course on Saturdays. So I would definitely reccommend him if you have that interest.

I’m the captain of a 6.0 Mix doubles TEAM in Washington DC. We are going to be playing on Sundays at the East Potomac Tennis Center. I am looking for at least 2 more players rated 3.0 or 2.5 for our TEAM as well. Please let me know if you want to join us ASAP. The League starts this Sunday. Questions? Comments? Hi Elaine,
Good questions. I'm not aware of any ongoing tennis social in teh Fairfax area, however you can certainly organize one with the tools here at Tennisopolis. At the top, you'll see a tab called Court Time, basically this is an event calendar. You can create a social tennis meeting and invite everyone in the group. By the way, there is a big Fairfax Group here in Tennisopolis as well. You can join that and invite all the members.

Like William said, you can meet lots of people here, it just takes a little initiative. It reminds me a little of a high school dance, nobody has any fun if everyone is leaning against walls. :-) So, definitely consider organizing an event and inviting the Fairfax Group, and the VA/DC members too. I think there are around 500 players combined, so you shouldn't ahve any trouble getting 30 or 40 or whatever you magic number is.

I guess I should update myself here a little. BTW thanks Mark for the heads up:)
I think it has been a lot harder looking for people to play recently - a lot of people aren't willing to travel within a set distance...or they have their own preferences for their own courts. For example, some people that I have talked to in the Bethesda area are not willing to travel to Olney or Silver Spring, or they are only willing to play with a certain NTRP player level.

I guess for a lot of people, there are a lot of particulars limiting them to meeting people. My question is, how would one approach certain peoples to make a new group if that's the problem on this site? For myself, I find a lot of decent to good players, but they are a lot older than me...I'm trying to look for people of my age group (don't care what skill level really) to form a group but they are very particular on where to play, etc. I have offered to travel to their locations myself but people seem to have forgotten about me after the initial rejection. Any advice? (Directed to Mark/Mr. Mayor but other contributions can definitey help)
