There are 2 styles of serve to choose from. I demonstrate But styles. By making a choice on which style works best for you, you can improve your service Game. If you have Questions about the differences please Join my Group and Become a CoachV tennis Student.

The Twist/Kick Serve

The Swing its Self = the Motion  its self. is closer to a jumping jack than a throwing motion of a football.

More about the Twist/kick Serve Tip.

the Tip for you is not to swing towards the net, but to swing more twords the right( if you are right handed ) make a "L" shape above your head pointing to the left and turn the wrist out towards the Right then it comes down like a jumping jack.

But the hand will make a rainbow shape turn not a turn from left to right( not pronation ).

The follow through will be a Normal "L" shape where the horizontal small line will be pointing to the left.

Ball Toss will vary With Height of the player and talent.

Hey V —

When I notice my serve starts catching the net cord or even going into the net over and over again, then I know EXACTLY what the problem is — I'm dropping my head before making contact with the service toss — and I also no just what to do to fix the problem. I literally FORCE myself to keep my head looking up at the ball until after I've struck the serve. This always works.

However, when the opposite problem comes up, and I'm consistently hitting the serve a foot beyond the service line, I'm never able to figure out what's causing that problem. So it's MUCH harder for me to correct this bad service pattern. The only lame trick I have is to start my service motion a step or two back behind the baseline until the problem goes away on its own. Can you suggest a simpler, more logical reason I might be getting into that overhitting service pattern, and is there a quick reminder I can give myself when it starts happening? IT'S SO FRUSTRATING!

OK … thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have on the subject.

Your buddy,

Oh yeah … one more thing … I use a more closed stance when I begin my service motion — if that makes any difference in your answer.

Thanks again!

John

Well hitting the net can be two problems. the Head looking down is not the main cause but is a factor. Some players toss the ball too much into the court and when they make contact they are making contact with the face of the racquet pointing down so the ball never clears the net. This too much out in Front ball toss can be also the over shot as well since the ball is soooooooo out in front, you cannot apply enough spin to keep it in. Balance toss is the first step. notice in the video I dont go Chasing the ball into the court. Let me know what you think.

quick tip: toss the ball to your other hand above your head without moving. this will correct the ball toss. so left hand to right hand above the head catch the ball without moving or losing balance.

then left hand to Right hand with racquet in hand and hit. you should not move or lose balance when you hit.

for better serve swing faster..... for consistency...... rinse and repeat. ( aka. practice swinging faster )

Thanks for the quick response. Generally speaking, my toss is pretty consistent. And when it does go off, I'm more to toss it back behind my head a bit, or to the right. I think my TIMING is more the culprit when I overhit. I'm not getting my racquet up into position fast enough, or I'm not swinging the racket fast enough (as you pointed out), or my timing is off in some other way that's causing late contact. I just wish I could think of an effective way to break that pattern when I'm in the middle of a match. You know, like the "keep your head up John" montra I use if my serves start landing in the net. LOL

I think your advice is absolutely correct though. I've just gotta learn to remind myself in mid-match.

Thanks again,
J

its hard to break down stuff i cant see. majority of the time if the ball hits the net you hit it down. and if it goes long there isnt enough spin.
