hey all, since this week isnt a week that our normal bracket challenge people, britishtennis.net, are holding a competition, i thought maybe we could check out another venue for one. the ATP site itself has one of indian wells BUT IT CLOSES AT 2:00PM EST TODAY so gets your picks in quick! a nice feature they have is current ranking, win-loss, and head-to-head against opponents there on the bracket page (instead of having to open a new page and look it all up separate). go here: http://challenge.atpworldtour.com/

Seems like ol' Britishtennis.net is dragging their feet on getting out the updated overall rankings now that the AO is over. I'm anxious to see what I am now! Of course, I might've dipped given my poor performance at the AO...

Hey Challengers!
We got prizes! Now you can play for pay. Avery Tennis is giving a brand new M3 Control racquet to the winner of the US Open Challenge.

I got interested in tennis because my mom was. I never would think I would be so obsessed with tennis.
I do hope others from here do the Cincy pick'ems. I just turned my in and only saw 2 others from here, I think.

CINCY AMS 'BATTLE OF THE BOARDS' PICK 'EM

The Cincinnati AMS pick 'em (the last one before the US Open) will be getting underway this weekend. There was a chance that we were going to have to cancel this one because Bethan is away, but it now looks like I have enough offers of help from other BT.net members, so barring disasters, it will go ahead.

IMPORTANT DATES

The main draw will take place at 4.30 pm (20.30 GMT / 9.30 pm UK) on Friday (25 July), so realistically by the time they publish it online and I get it onto the entry form, the entry form with non-qualifiers placed will be available by Saturday morning UK time, mid-evening Friday US time.

Even if all qualifying matches are completed on time, the entry form with qualifiers placed is unlikely to be available before mid-evening on Sunday (UK time), but entries will remain open until play is due to start at 15.00 GMT = 4 pm UK = 11 am US EDT on Monday, so if you can enter during the day on Monday it is probably worth waiting for qualifiers to be placed, otherwise you should pick during the weekend, before qualifiers get placed.

Emails appropriate to the notification option selected will be sent out at the relevant time to those who have asked for them.

IF YOU WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS AT THE WEEKEND

Since only one or two people have taken advantage of the totally 'blind' entry form at RG and Wimby, I am not going to offer this option for the AMS events, especially since missing an AMS pick 'em tends to be not nearly as critical to your overall ranking as not getting any score for a slam would be.

However, if you aren't going to have Internet access between the early hours of Saturday morning and mid-afternoon (UK) on Monday and you really don't want to miss this pick 'em, you could always send your picks to a friend (in the form R1: player 1 to beat player 2, player 4 to beat player 3, etc; R2: player 1 to beat player 4, etc) and ask them to enter for you.

If you are going to do this though, please let me know at btpickem@hotmail.com to save it from getting disallowed as a multiple entry.

OUTLOOK FOR THE OVERALL RANKINGS

Cincy has a well-deserved reputation for producing the craziest results of any mandatory event and this is true of the Cincy pick 'em too, with the result that only two of the top 20 in the overall pick 'em rankings are defending points there (and even they are defending scores less than 50 above the 8th best scores they would be replaced by) and none of those who are defending lots of points (i.e. last year's Cincy top three) are currently in the top 50 of the overall rankings.

It's hard to know whether crazy results is a Cincy thing or a timing thing (if it's the latter, this year might be different because it is being held earlier in the US hard court swing), but lots of the top pick 'em players have a chance of adding quite a few ranking points to their totals if they do well here.
