I often find myself setting the ball short. How can I improve on hitting the ball deep? Any tricks or input?

Practice and training. Drill is simple set a cone target, do it over and over.

Best of luck.

Permalink Reply by Tim Prapong on December 22, 2010 at 12:43am I have a drill where I put three or four cones, a foot inside the baseline on both sides of the court. Then the two players have to rally and try to knock the cones off first.
I also set the 3-4 cones only for crosscort backhands or forehands, which is easier because the cones are closer together.

Permalink Reply by Decker on December 22, 2010 at 12:48pm The cones are a great idea.... For my serve, I put tennis cans on the corners. I serve until they are all hit.
For the groundstrokes, I concentrate on bending my legs. It seems I get lazy at times and don't fully spring out of my shots...

Permalink Reply by Kelvinator on December 22, 2010 at 6:48pm yea i like this too...we just to do another dril that's easier...where you cone of a back area and we keep score to see who hits it in that area the most times...or whoever hit the last shot in that area gets the more points if they win the rally...etc...lots of variations!

Permalink Reply by Kelvinator on December 22, 2010 at 7:12pm each cone 5 to 6 times? that's like hitting a cone every 2 to 3 serves! That's impressive...too impressive...lol

Yeah, this summer, I put four cones on the corner of the service box to practice my kick and topspin serves. It would take me the whole 70 ball basket to hit the cones five to six times. I had those cheap flat cones, so they ended up shattering.
