Nadal withdraws from the London Olympics!!!

"I have to think about my companions, I can't be selfish and I have to think of what's best for Spanish sport, especially tennis and Spanish players, and give fellow sportsmen with better preparation the chance to compete," Nadal said, according to the AP. "I tried to hurry my preparations and training to the very last minute, but it was not to be."
 

"(This) is one of the saddest days of my career as one of my biggest ambitions, that of being Spain's flag bearer in the opening ceremony of the games in London, cannot be," Nadal added. "You can imagine how difficult it was to take this decision."

He had earlier pulled out of an exo with Djokovic this month due to patellar tendonitis. Is this another chance in the open for Federer to win?

Lopez is the replacement for Spain's singles spot that Nadal vacated.

I am so depressed.  2nd round of Wimbledon.  Now this.  What am I going to do.  I can't stand the thought of Fed getting a gold medal in singles.  That would make him just as cool as Agassi and Rafa.  That cannot be.  I need the stars to align and either somebody out of nowhere beat him or Djoko beat him.  As much as it pains me to root for Djoko, I would rather him win than Fed.  Just saying.

Well that sucks. I hope Roger gets the gold in place of Nadal. The singles gold medal is like the missing piece on his resume.

I too don't like the sound of Fed getting the gold.  I hope somebody out of nowhere comes through and wins it.  Let's shake up the establishment a little.  It would be great for the game.
