Recognize these names, Frederico Gil, Marco Chiudinelli, Benjamin Mitchell? What about these  players, Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic?

These are just a few players John Isner has successfully defeated this 2012 season. The 6'9, 245lb pound Goliath has show that David's odds or not looking to great this year. WIth a record of 17-6, and four of those coming off of clay. Johns victory over Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and going five sets with Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros last year, one has to think that John is the leading Dark Horse going into the French open.

Sorry guys, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Isner has the ABILITY to win all four majors. Calendar year or not. Will he? Probably not. But he can. His weapons are without a doubt good enough, as he's already he's already shown that he can take out any of the big 3. His chances go like this. French Open, US Open, Australian Open, then Wimbledon.

Well, maybe he can take out one of the big 3 once in awhile. But that in no way means he will beat two of them and a few other guys all in the same two weeks. He has to have the stamina and record to indicate otherwise. Tsonga has the same abilities, but does anyone here talk about him winning ALL four slams?

Well, as we all know I'm an Izzy fan, and I think he can get one maybe two of the majors. Look at Murray, he has more game and fitness than both Iz and Tsonga and still hasn't close the deal in a major.

Isner has that magic that Murray doesnt have though. He can be a set and a break down and it doesn't bother him. Murray would be cussing at his box/fussing at himself. Isner would already be planning what points in the tiebreak he's going to serve ~149mph on. He's going to be in the world tour finals this year. Mark my words. I can see him taking every major but wimbledon at least once. and maybe even wimbledon. not saying it's probable... but i also wouldn't be shocked a bit.

Well, I can't stop a diehard Isner fan from believing. But do you really believe Isner "plans" which points to hit 140 mph on? Why do you think Wimbledon is his worst surface when the grass suits the fast server and definitely not clay?

Wow, a lot of faith towards Isner.  Like Tim, can't fault a fan, but wow.  Beating two or three of the top 4 to win a major is not in Isner's vocabulary at this point.  He has no history of it, or of being in good enough shape to do it, especially the French.  Isner's best chance is either Wimbledon or the U.S. Open.  He needs shorter, faster points, where is Serve is truly a weapon and where he can back that up with his forehand.  I mean really?  The French.  Monaco who is a clay courter exposed Isner just recently and he isn't even the best of the clay courters.  Not the French.  It will never happen.  Sorry.

Exactly. Monaco comes to Texas and whomps on Isner on American clay. I would be tucking my tail on Isner winning the French. Magic that is greater than Murray? Murray will go farther in the French than Isner does. Mark my words.

Mark his words, consider them marked.  As I concur with Tim.

I don't think so. Isner was so worn out by the final in texas there was no doubt he would lose. Do you know how much tennis he had played prior though? Monaco was basically fresh compared to him. I'm not a diehard Isner fan. More of a Fedtard. I just apparently see potential in the guy you guys don't see. Maybe I'm wrong, but I expect him to make it at least a round past Murray in the french. I'm looking for Andy to give wimbledon a much bigger push than the french this year, seeing as he has absolutely no chance of winning it. Isner is the closest thing to an American clay court specialist we've had in a long time.

And yes, I do think Isner plans out his tiebreaks. That's how he wins matches outside of top form.

The only thing Monaco "exposed" was how tired Isner was before the match even began. Really. Did you see the interview after he beat Lopez? He looked like he was standing in the rain. Nobody thought he was going to beat Monaco.

He better work on that fitness and defense that Murray has in big measure. Those two things along with more solid groundies make Murray number 4, not number 9, 10 or 11.

American clay court specialist? Do you know what a clay courter is? Someone who can rally for 20 shots or more. I never see Isner do that. Think Courier or Chang, guys with SOLID AS ROCK groundies, footspeed and big time stamina. Isner doesn't have those qualities. His career record at the French? Two first round losses and 1 third round loss!

C'mon now, you say Isner doesn't worry about being a set and a half down? Anyone would worry being that far down. Fed, Rafa, whoever. You make Isner sound like King Kong swatting biplanes. lol

That's what it probably feels like for him at that altitude :). However, I would agree with Tim and Mark on this Bryan. Issy just isn't built for clay. The best chances for him would be the faster surfaces (Wimby and USO) however, the stars have to completely align for him to take a victory over one of the top 4. Now to take out 2 or 3 of them in a row? I'd say I have a better chance at winning the lottery without buying a ticket. Sorry.

His career record is best at the Australian and the US Open. Look at the Wikipedia entry on Isner. He needs a consistent bounce that isn't too low. Those are the surfaces suited to him.
