Hey Mike,

 

You played great last night so congratulations (job well done).  For future reference I checked with our league coordinator (Sarah Robinson) on our match last night and the mix up with playing a normal tie-breaker versus playing the correct match tie-breaker.  Here is Sarah's response:

 

"Another rule you should know (this is an expensive lesson) is that once the players have shaken hands, that is agreement that the match is over. You were not required to return to the court. The basis of this is that players should know the rules and if they don't they live or die with the results. Since you did return to the court, the final results stand. All points played in good faith stand."

 

As I said, it doesn't change the results from last night but good to know for future reference.  Hopefully we will get to play each other in the playoffs during the day :)

Wow, good to know this Steve!  I'm sure you won't let that happen again.  I will remember this rule as well.  I'm sure we will face each other in the playoffs.  Good match last night man.

Ahh, did you guys play the wrong type of tie break and then have a captain send you back out to finish or play correct one?

Ya, we played a 7 point TB, when it was supposed to be a 10pt TB.  Captain sent us out to complete the correct TB.  Another thing is that I told my opponent in the beginning of the match that I wanted to play a full third if we split.  My opponent and his team mate convinced me to just play a TB.  My opponent was cramping, club Sport had already clinched the team win, and it was getting late so I agreed on the TB.

wish I was there, had that happen before, but the TB winner went back out lost the extra points and match. But USTA changed it. Once you walk off and shake hands it's a done deal no matter what a crazy captain says.

I actually lost the 7 point TB,  and the match.  We went back out and I pulled out the TB and won the match.  My lesson learned here was don't let anyone convince me to change what I had planned originally under any circumstances!  In this case, a full third set!
