I've learned that consistency is the KEY.  It took me a while to accept this concept, but it has really seemed to work for me.  Before I thought it was absolutely necessary for me to hit a winner on every shot.  I've learned that just being consistent and letting your opponent lose the point and make all the mistakes is a huge part of the game!  I'm changing my style!  Anyone else have any tips or input?

Hey Mike,
Consistency is one part.. Playing with the risk factor is the key to winning points. eg Playing too risky OR too conservative results in losing the point. The percentage shot varies on so many things in every shot. You must know yourself and respect every ball coming to you. eg Hitting heavy off a heavy ball is high risk. Hitting heavy off a opportunity ball is lower risk if you are in position. Tennis is such a great game!

I would add speed and quickness to the mix as well. There are tons of those type of drills that can enhance that, and that skill set will always help with the consistency issue. If you are always able to get to shots in time, you will then be better prepared to do with the ball what you want to instead of settling on a shot that you may not have wanted to hit. I have noticed that effect with my son. He has worked on those a lot and it is a whole lot tougher for his opponents to get the ball past him, which in turn causes them to press and consequently the unforced errors increase.
Hey Mark, Yes speed and quickness.. I would also add 'anticipation' to this mix. Because you have 'vitrual' speed with great anticipation :) Pete Tramacchi and I have created a free eBook called The Power Of Anticipation .. let me know if you need the link :)
awesome pointers guys, thanks!
