Are you speaking for yourself Kelvin? Ya, I started the same way. I joined a USTA league in Oakland CA and self rated myself at 3.5. I played 4 matches for this team(#1singles) and then I got bumped by the computer to 4.0. My 4 wins as a 3.5 player then turned into losses.
Yea talking about myself...very similar story...at least the broke down all my matches for me later to show me the reason for the bump...Too bad we don't get to see that info during the season lol .. they "watch" self rated player more closely...
If you play in USTA events such as tournaments and leagues, they keep track of your wins and losses vs other players. If, as a 4.0, you regulary win 4.0 tournaments, or beat 4.5 players, you'll get moved up. This usually happens at the end of the tennis season, but if you are blowing them away, your NTRP will be corrected immediately. We lost a guy on our 4.0 team because of this.
Ya that's interesting. I was 3.5 this past season. I was bumped to 4.0 after only playing 4 matches as a 3.5. I have a friend that is a tennis pro at a local private club, where I played for his 4.0 league. He told me that he has a list of people that are close to getting bumped, and who are not in danger of being bumped. He told me that my name was on the top of the list for being bumped to 4.5. I don't understand how or why this is because I haven't been doing all that great in my tournaments lately. How can this be? It doesn't seem fair.
