Are people on here rated by the USTA, or are they self rating?

Just curios.  How many of us here are ACTUALLY USTA rated, and how many of the members are SELF rated?

So are you self rated? I noticed that you have 3 ratings. Which one are you?
Tim, have you came across people claiming to be a certain rating just to find out that they were way off?!
All the time Mike...in all fairness though those who self rate may or may not be hurting themselves yes...no? Whadya think? For the record I am USTA rated.
Tim, I have also came across this situation quite a bit. I don't think that self raters are "hurting" themselves, since they really don't have a true sense of what what the real rating is. I think once they get out and play a USTA rated person, then they can get an idea as to where they stand as far as their rating. As for myself, I am USTA rated, although I enjoy and actually play much better against higher rated players. We should get together and hit sometime.
I'm USTA rated, but I think many players are just guessing. Very few of the tennis players in this country actually play USTA events.

It seems to me that most self-raters over rate themselves. For instance, they'll say they are a 4.0 when they would actually be rated a 3.5. Would you two agree?
BTW Mike, you posted this under "Professional" section. I moved it, but do you know how to select the correct forum section when you post? (There's a drop down menu.)
Got it! Thank you Mr. Mayor! :)
Mr. Mayor, I couldn't agree with you more. It's sometime frustrating when I meat with a person who says they're 4.0 when in fact they're not. But it's actually a good thing sometimes because it's good to hit with all different types of players! Especially for myself. For some reason, when I play NTRP tournaments, I play very poorly against lower level 4.0 players, and much better against better 4.0 players. It's good practice for me. So no complaints over here. :)
I am rated 4.5 since I have not played for years. I can win at 4.5 no prob. Win at 5.0 on a regular day. Is it wrong to beat up on the lower level, Mr. Mike, or Mr. Mayor?
Hahahaha Larry. I don't think it's wrong to beat up on the lower level. I think it's actually good for both players. It's good for you to practice placing your balls without having to bang it out against lower level players. It can also be kind of comedic to watch your opponent run all over the court with your well placed shots! (giggling inside) And it's good for the lower level player to improve their game playing a better player. At least that's what I think. Mr. Mayor? What's your input?
