I can't speak to NYC leauge, but I do play league here in ABQ, and I think there are some shared tendencies. :-)<br />
People can be very very serious about winning. I've seen some yelling matches. Generally, people want strong teams and they'll get the strongest players possible. Once you are ranked on the USTA computer, you can not "play down", but you can "play up" - although most teams don't want a 3.5 player on their 4.0 team.<br />

But if you are not into super competitive, just look for a team that shares your feeling. WE have some laid-back teams and some of the other kind.<br />
